Manga purists have let their voices be heard in regards to the anime that have failed to live up to the quality of their manga equivalents, resulting in several well-known franchises being called out (if not solely out of spite).
1. Dragon Ball
5. Aku no Hana
7. Kiseijuu
9. Soul Hunter
A lot of these are just a matter of opinion, which makes this a typically useless list. You know what was a fucking abysmal manga to anime adaptation? Eyeshield 21. The anime wasn’t just padded out the ass with filler, it also made tweaks and changes to the canon material that they probably didn’t think were a big deal but ended up making things HORRIBLY worse (often completely missing the entire fucking point of the original story), and the animation was fucking godawful- the unmoving still frames of the goddamn MANGA conveyed more action and excitement, and all the characters were HORRIBLY off-model. The only thing it did right was end prematurely after the rematch against Oujo (which was the point after which the manga jumped the shark and rapidly went downhill). Fucking ATROCIOUS!
Shouldn’t Magical Warfare be here too?
True story: I accidentally watched the live action version of GTO and didn’t like the anime after that.
The list makes no distinction between the 2003 version of FMA and the 2010 remake Brotherhood which was much, much more faithful to the manga.
I may be alone, and I have never read the manga, so maybe they screwed it up at some point.
I actually LIKED what they did with Aku no Hana. Maybe there was a way to accomplish what they were trying to do better, but I really liked the idea of the Japanese ACTUALLY making “Japanese-looking” characters instead of Caucasian-influenced (stereotypical) anime style characters.
Perhaps I was alone on this, but I really would have liked to see the conclusion of this anime series. The only thing that might have made this better is if they’d gone totally live-action… I think that MIGHT have actually been the only upgrade I’d’ve suggested for this series.
