Maybe their over-fascination with the German language is a carryover from their stint as an Axis Power. Seriously, it’s way overused, from Gundam to Fate Kaleid.
Or maybe it’s because Germany was a major trading power during the 1800’s that ‘modernized’ Japan through mechanization and adoption of western concepts.
