Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso has become the next series to be graced with another “brilliant” English dub, though at least westerners afflicted by reading difficulties can finally experience the anime for themselves.
The questionable sample trailer:
Volume 1 of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso will launch March 29th, while the 2nd volume will make its arrival on May 31st.
I’m not entirely convinced about this dub. While it is possible to have good anime dubs (dbz english is better than japanese, cowboy bebop english is the definitive version, etc), it isn’t very common.
The problem with dubs is also going to be exclusively a dub problem until they start hiring more talented voice actors and putting more effort into them in general. But until then, we’ll still have to deal with unnatural english sentences and fake sounding emotions.
It doesn’t matter how exaggerated they sound as long as it sounds genuine, which is where dubs usually miss the mark.
always going*

Only voice I didn’t mind was MC’s buddy near the start of the trailer. The rest alternated between mediocre and cringe.
Pretty good , this is one of the best dub I saw so far.
There’s no such thing as a brilliant dub.
They’re absurdly rare, but brilliant dubs do exist.
IMHO any Studio Ghibli films for example…
Mind you, the ratio for good/bad dubbing is so skewed to the bad* end i’ll always go for the non-dubbed versions by default nowadays.
*Though i wonder how much regional accents affect this. As a UK resident the whole Japanese setting/culture with heavy American accents dropped on top is especially jarring to me.
Cowboy Bebop.
Of course, there is. But you need professionals…
Kaori dies.
