Namco Bandai have at last announced the next iteration of its long-loved Tekken franchise, while simultaneously declaring the game’s migration to the Unreal engine – a seemingly common occurrence with fighting games of late…
Producer Katsuhiro Harada proclaims their reason for this sudden change is so that development can be more focused on the game rather than on creating the engine, with Unreal’s vast multi-platform support also being an incentive – though whether this decision was out of laziness or strained finances is not clear, as is the matter of whether the game may be finding its way onto more platforms than usual.
The announcement came by way of trailer at the Evolution Championship Series fighting game tournament:
Follow-up details will be revealed at a Comic-con panel on July 25th.
Well, for only 20 usd/mo if they don’t use the UE now that is basically free and open source, they’re morons.
“What, are you a fucking moron? It’s so we can make it incredibly easy to multi platform it, and not have to worry about that s♥♥t..”
“Erhm, I mean, it’s so we can focus on making the game much better!!”
Finally, back to the solo fight system. Tag was getting a bit overwhelming. Now I can Steve Fox it up again. Sonic Fang~Sonic Fang~Sonic Fang~11b~db2
At the end, Liam Neeson wins
yet another decent franchise ruined by a crappy first person shooter engine.
next we’ll see dead or alive using id tech 6 after doom is released “just because”
You western don’t know anything about game development.
Latest Mortal Kombat was also use Unreal Engine too.
You’re an idiot. Unreal Engine has been used to create a of those few JPRG titles you weaboos love so much and used be Japanese architects to design buildings in an environment where everything from the floor designs to the lighting can be simulated in realtime.
And as for 2D fighters, Guilty Gear Xrd already showed the world that Unreal Engine is god tier. But keep your bitching little weaboo. Tell those Japanese developers not to use Unreal Engine, tell them to waste 1-2 years of finances & development creating the next Final Fantasy engine. That just means less of your shitty JRPG titles flooding the market and budget cuts in other key areas like graphics & expected gameplay time.
Cool and all…
But STOP USING THE WORD REALTIME, if you don’t know what exactly that means
A Game Engine has nothing to do with a Genre.
also, the new Guilty Gear Xrd uses Unreal Engine 3
your wrong, UE is crap.
Unreal Engine is easy to code and its cheap so yep devs will buy it and save money and time.
Is it a good engine? Yes but i prefer CryEngine its just “the feeling” for me :).
Source is not bad ( ill wait for the new Source engine ) but Unity is shitty no doubt about it HAH!.
Exactly. Everyone knows the engine is bad so that’s why so many developers use it. Yes, they use it just to annoy you. No other reason. Everyday they go to work thinking “Oh god, another day with this engine. I can barely take it anymore. But we’ll piss of our fans so it’s worth it”.
Let me guess. Unity, Source and just about every other engine is bad too, right?
