Japan’s 8.9 magnitude earthquake has caused extensive damage to northern areas, with most of the devastation sustained in the less populous northern prefectures of Miyagi and Fukushima, with the coastal city of Sendai especially badly hit.
The most severe damage was largely inflicted on coastal areas of Touhoku by tsunami, with 10m waves washing even ships ashore.
Casualty reports are as yet largely unconfirmed, but 184 are confirmed dead by police, 708 are reportedly missing, and in Sendai there are reports of “several hundred” bodies washed up on the beach.
Get your facts right: it was a 9.0 earthqauke, and the largest waves were 40.5 metres high. There were 15854 deaths and 9677 injuries.
“Especially badly hit”? Learn to write, asshole. The proper syntax is “hit especially hard”.
I’m still horrified at disasters like I used to be, but after inventing roleplaying with friends then hooking up with the wider network for nearly twenty years pictures of chaos give me the urge to search out valuables and loot them, especially banks and jewlery stores.
..this tragedy is really gut wrenching, but i believe the Japanese people will get past this event, though it would surely be hard and leave scars behind.
Freaky thing to watch is the houses on fire… that are moving with the water… so if you’re standing at the incoming water – you have FIRE barreling down.
