Japanese asked to rank the most profoundly memorable video game systems give a list unlikely to elicit much controversy from gamers, whether Japanese or not.
1. Famicon [NES] (7402)
2. Super Famicon [SNES] (4152)
3. GameBoy (2752)
4. N64 (1251)
5. GameBoy Color (730)
6. PlayStation 2 (688)
7. PlayStation (548)
8. Sega Saturn (350)
9. DreamCast (91)
10. Xbox (21)
Obscure consoles such as the PC Engine and Neo Geo, as well as the rather less obscure Sega Mega Drive, seem not to have been included – it is interesting to speculate whether the Xbox would still have been dead last even with them present.
Holy s♥♥t, and THE GENESIS :@
hmm… i just wondering how old the sample was taken
What happened to Gamecube? It had the best version of Resident Evil 4 ever!
1. Super Famicon [SNES]
(Just look at its library and the consequences of games in this one.)
2. Famicon [NES]
(The first mario. Period.)
3. GameBoy
(First “true” and highly accessible Handheld console, period. Moreover, pokemon, which, as a BIG license, have marked the mind of a LOT of people. This is about MEMORABLE consoles here, again. It’s not talking about quality, so your nopinion on the matter should not count.)
4. PlayStation
(“Hello Sega and Nintendo, GTFO, we are here and we are going to conquer the whole market”. Enough said.)
5.N64 (548)
6. PlayStation 2
7. GameBoy Color
(Don’t know about the order for those two.
Keep in mind that a lot of people in japan probably had not known the fat gameboy. So for them, gameboy = gameboy color. This and the color handheld factor makes it almost understandable.
For the PS2, huge games library and a lot of new and licenses still popular now, so it makes sense.)
8.DreamCast (91)
(Well, first next gen, and again it is about “memorable”. The last console for a company as big as Sega is always memorable. The fact that it is not forgotten despite its death is a proof.)
9.Xbox (21)
(Microsoft coming in this market was probably a surprise for everyone. At least for the gamers, it was.)
10. Sega Saturn (350)
(shouldn’t be the console which represent Sega in this top if I was the one deciding.)
Corrected.

Otherwise, good list.
And by the way, shut up, sony-fanboys.
I agree, the PSX/PS2 shouldn’t be in 6th position or worse. But most of the sony-fanboys here are even worse than the nintendo-fanboys in this survey.
Damn, forgot to remove the numbers in the second part. Well, who cares.
SNES in second is understandable I guess, although I’d prefer it in first. That the PS1 and PS2, the two best selling consoles of all time with countless classics, are so low ranked while the damned gameboy color is higher suggests a heavy nintendo bias though.
Also what gives with the Saturn being above Dreamcast? Dreamcast was much more memorable. This list is problematic overall now that I think about it.
