Long-time Final Fantasy fanatics have been venting their frustrations yet again with the release of the latest trailer for the former RPG franchise, which has showcased more of its action genre gameplay mechanics and intense real-time combat sequences – earning scorn from fans deeming it to be nothing like Final Fantasy.
The gameplay-packed TGS trailer:
The previous E3 trailer:
The apparent departure of Tetsuya Nomura to work on Kingdom Hearts 3 also seems to suggest the new direction of the franchise may not be one many fans like – although at least there will definitely be towns this time around.
Last FF title I purchased was FF12. Looks like that will not be changing. I saw nothing in the trailer that makes me want to buy this…game. (Btw, is it “really” a game this time? I seem to remember this companys CEO making statements to the effect that gamers do not want games, they want interactive movies.)
Does this ‘game’ have things like a story line? Character development? A plot? Optional bosses? Side quests? Towns you can actually enter? People to talk to? Can you control the party this time, or just one person?
You know, things that make it interesting.
All I see in the trailers is a load of flashy, over-graphiced crap.
“Is it really Final Fantasy any more?” well you could say that about any of the games really. there is no actual “Final Fantasy” Personally I see Final Fantasy as a Multiverse and each game could be a different and separate world (unless it is a sequel like X-2 or XIII-2) each world is Final Fantasy and not at the same time. Also isn’t Final Fantasy about stories
not game mechanics. You could say Final Fantasy is
a collection of Stories for each world.
Sure there are similarities and that is one of the
themes and one of the threads that run through these worlds and connect them all in this big web.
The graphics are amazing, but the boy band character designs are yaoi as f♥♥k, and the gameplay looks more like Dynasty Warriors than FF…
Fujoshi Fantasy XV, Hard Pass, i don’t play sausage fests.
I’m really looking forward to this. I couldn’t care less if they are all guys. What I don’t understand is why everyone was going nuts over this trailer. They were just driving around for the most part. The fighting style in FF13 was already impressive and they probably just improved on that. What got me into this was the original trailer where he was walking down the stairs looking all badass. Now we have (oddly offroad) cars as the trailer. Give me more badassery damnit!
What sold me on the game was the first trailer where Noctis is eating with that old guy and he makes that face. It’s just such a weird, almost movie-quality scene that you’d never expect from an FF game which usually has overly melodramatic, unrealistic, and silly cutscenes (not because of their content but because of how the characters act and speak). Just because it’s a fantasy game doesn’t mean characters have to act so unrealistically.
