Yes, I have. I do digital work for 3d printed toys. The finishing is done afterwards in wax or resin along with any changes missed by doing everything on a flat 2d screen.
Some of the new printers, btw, have VERY fine resolution. Check out the envisiontec perfactory printer. I’ve been turning out quite a few jobs on that printer the last 6 months.

New technologies allow new workflows, and thus certain types of details that may have been rare prior become commonplace. This even extends to the sculpting of the faces. Aesthetics change, Precision increases, etc.
