The degenerate behaviour of Japanese football fans has been roundly criticised after they ran amok in central Shibuya, blocking traffic and clambering over cars in a manner more reminiscent of common European football thuggery than the reserved support more usually associated with Japanese.
The mob blocked Shibuya’s famed scramble crossing in an unyielding throng, and were witnessed jumping on top of a hapless taxi and engaging in other raucous behaviour.
Online their antics earned them nothing but disgust, with anger at the police’s failure to arrest them and the usual attempts to claim they “were clearly not Japanese,” or at the very least were merely watery blooded bumpkins from outside Tokyo.
Hopefully Japan can prevent the problem from happening again and not becoming just apart of the culture like in Europe, but that claiming the hooligans “aren’t Japanese” is retarded.
