Masamune Shirow‘s classic manga Appleseed is receiving yet another anime adaptation – this time a 13 episode TV series entitiled “Appleseed XIII.”
The anime will be in the same 3D CG style as the two recent movies, but the story is said to be otherwise unconnected to the movies – although Deunan and Briareos are still the lead figures.
Masamune Shirow himself is to be involved, apparently promising something closer to the manga than the previous adaptations.
Production is by Jinni’s Animation Studios (known for various CG animations), with Production IG cooperating, and staff include a number of figures involved in Stand Alone Complex. Development is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2011.
Shirow Sensei, prolly will be involved, since the Appleseed Saga is one of his iconic life’s work.
The colouration of Ghost in the Shell, was quite good considering the logistics of production. Though the tech has come along considerably, since GitS was made.
I would anticipate that since Appleseed is the other Shirow franchise, the work be on the whole on a par far far better, than Ghost was.
I suspect the story to be have been developed some where in the middle of the Manga Story lines that were omitted in the Movie adaptations.
Because rehashing old materiel is the doom of a anime franchise.
A good example of an anime that started out well – but ended up just sucking, after it was rehashed 4-5 times is Tenchi Muyo.
Among those of yuze who know “me” as well, I’m an ardent Appleseed fan.
I hope that this last incarnation won’t suck as bad as the 2nd movie.
The Movements alone were too quirky – while Ghost in the Shell was and still is on a par of graceful & natural motion. That few anime have matched to date.
Well Ghost was a labor of love by all involved.
I can only pray that the Appleseed incarnation will at least match Ghost in the Shell.
peace guys.
Mecha fans, will love the fighting scenes to come, that is for sure. Because landmates are big – but not too big, and they’re fitted out with all sorts of cool stuff.
Let the kickass fight scenes begin!!
The two movies disappointed me so I really don’t have much fate in the new tv series.
What’s with 13 anime episodes these days? The usual episode length were 26 episodes and 13 episodes were a rarity.
very interesting thumbnail O_O
i think this is the first “naughty” anime/manga picture i ever downloaded off the internet back in the 90s
