Not being able to cosplay effectively (and by extension, abstaining from cosplay), doesn't mean you're unable to recognize shitty cosplay.
Ah, but for me who WAS there, they WERE good. Most of the complaints that I've read here were just trolls, because they were not Japanese, and in an extent there was no photoshopping. People are hard to please, but to say that it's bad altogether is something laughable.

It doesn't matter where they're from. The only articles that i've seen where the girls don't get any bashing are ones originating from Japan, C76 cosplay in point.

The best pics were the DBZ and the Masked Rider ones. For the girls, Haruhi wasn't too bad and the blond with the guitar looked good. Quite sure the Mariya cosplay was a trap just like the character.

Though I myself am Malaysian, I do agree with some of you-- although I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon-- but some of the cosplayers DO look '3D pig-disgusting' or whatever. But then again, M'sians do have a sort of 60-40 Winplay to Failplay thing going.
Looking back at the CF08 post, I will admit that it seems most of the better cosplayers aren't in Malacca (Melaka), but rather KL. It's true, it's true.
But if you think about it a little, Malaysian cosplay-- with a little effort, can be just as good as Nippon cosplay. Maybe if they did trip their eyebrows and what not, it could happen.
All those who declare Malaysian cosplay 'failplay,' kindly wait for Conmic Fiesta 2009 in December. All the pretty girls go there, as far as I know.

It's funny how awkward it feels to see GACC being reported here. That's my university too and I was one of the running committee for this event tho, and I dare say it's one of those events many people in Malaysia looked out for. My contender for PS2 arcade tournament actually came all the way from another state just to participate. LOL.
Also, it's always nice to know Sankaku Complex actually did cover our event. Haha~

Some were good, some were acceptable, some were crap, and some made me want to face palm.
I liked the one of Cornelia's guard, and a few random ones I can't identify.
Oddly, I like the Sumomomo one. The chub made it look almost chibi...
Some of the vocaloids were adequate or just bad. Then came the Rin and following Miku. I wanted to cry, and I'm not normally one to jump on the '3D pig disgusting' bandwagon... That Rin looks like she was beaten up...
as for those saying "I don't see you doing any better." Maybe not, but perhaps that's because we know our cosplays would be failplay.
One of the big problems seems to be several people just look odd as the characters they're playing.
