Third Day of 2024 Ends With Kyushu Fire & Akihabara Stabbing

Japan’s third day of 2024, unfortunately, followed the direction of the previous two days, with a raging fire in Kita-Kyushu and a woman stabbing a victim in a train that had just stopped at Akihabara Station’s Yamanote Line platform.

The Akihabara Station stabbing took place at 11 p.m. on the 3rd, with a woman in her 20s swinging around a chopping knife inside one of the train cars. It seems that the woman might have been aiming for men exclusively, as four men were injured in the attack, with people calling the police in the process.

According to one of the men involved, he had just sat down when he felt a shock to his chest, and the knife dropped to the floor, with the young woman standing next to him silently.

Meanwhile, the Kyushu fire started around 3 p.m. on the 3rd from a restaurant street near the JR Ogura station and grew in size due to the cluster of wooden buildings populating the area, making it harder to put out the fire. After 17 hours of tough firefighting, the fire finally completely subsided at 8 a.m. on the 4th.
