A movie adaptation of the manga ‘Ano Hana ga Saku Oka de, Kimi to Mata Deaetara’ about a high school girl who time travels to World War II is being criticized by the Japanese for ‘glorifying’ suicide bombers.
In a trailer for the movie, several actors are heard sharing their ‘behind-the-scenes’ thoughts on war and history. The problematic quote came from actor Kentaro Ito, who said, “The peace we have today is thanks to the many Japanese Special Attack Units (suicide bombers) who were there in the past.”
Moreover, a user on X who posted screenshots of the quote had their media removed from the post despite not breaking any rules. The user echoed the sentiments of those saying the Japanese must learn the truth that “The death of the Special Attack Units members did not contribute to the peace and prosperity of Japan, as they only died in vain.”
The quote can be heard at the 0:40 mark in the video below:
I think you can both glorify their actions and realise those actions were ultimately in vain, they did after all give their lives to try to halt a very real threat to their homeland.
Halt a very real “THREAT”? How detached are you form reality? The Axis were the fucking invaders in World War 2. Are you a moron Islamic extremist Muslim that enjoy bombing the s♥♥t out of other people while calling each other heroes?
Kill yourself, jew
You mean the threat they created?
oh here we go jews trying to shame the heroes of imperial japan people who gave their lives for their families and emperor trying to distort history
Jap communists.
Stupid to complain about something that happened in history! Fucking woke s♥♥t world!
All I have to say about this is 天皇陛下万歳
Fuking cringe. Not even Japanese people say that nowadays. Even the “emperor” has to give way to a police or ambulance on the street now lol.
The peace they have today is because of the bombers…I guess in a round a bout way it is, I mean if it wasn’t for them America wouldn’t have needed to drop the bomb causing them to unconditionally surrender and find other ways to be productive, like anime and manga and robots.
