A seemingly innocent Mob Psycho 100 illustration made for a collaboration cafe has caused an uproar after Korean social media users criticized it for having the ‘rising sun’ in the design.
Here’s the full illustration that was posted on X:
The ‘rising sun’ can be seen on the rackets held by the Kageyama brothers in chibi form.
A few angry comments from Korean netizens:
“How embarrassing.”
“What’s the meaning of this design?”
“They drew the rising sun.”
“Apologize!”
After receiving so many comments and messages from disgruntled Korean netizens, the company managing the collaboration cafe came out with a statement addressing the issue:
The company basically said that while some people on social media may have differing opinions, the illustration was designed with New Year’s as the theme and that there was no other intention or meaning behind it.
