A 7-meter tall “Spear of Longinus” replica from the Evangelion series appeared in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, made by 40 workers from a rope manufacturing company, Ube Steel.
The Spear of Longinus, measuring 7 meters, was made using cast iron donated by Ube Steel. A young employee of the company proposed making it in the summer of 2022, and after getting the green light, he led about 40 employees in their 20s and 30s to make the giant Spear of Longinus.
Ube Steel works with advanced casting technology, with the capability of melting scrap iron at a high temperature of 1,500 degrees poured into a mold. Using the anime as a reference, the workers were particular about the shape of the spiral and were able to give it a “knife-like feel” through trial and error.
