Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken Surpasses To Aru Series in Total Book Sales

The great king of light novel and manga sales, the To Aru series (with To Aru Majutsu no Index as the frontrunner), has finally been surpassed by none other than isekai series Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (TenSura), a turn of events that will have some wondering how long it will manage to maintain this lead.

The TenSura series of light novels celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, though that’s only barely more than half of the To Aru series’ 19th year of publication. News of its 10th anniversary project and its sales figures broke via Twitter on February 19th, with a 10th anniversary site now available online.

TenSura has now seized the top spot of a total book sales ranking, although the most recent total sales announcement for the To Aru series dates back to 2019. By January 2022, the TenSura series had already been closing in on the To Aru series’ last announced sales numbers.

It’s currently unknown what the ratio of light novel to manga sales are for the series, as the ranking adds both of them together. It’s possible that the To Aru series will retake its throne with its next public announcement of total sales figures.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, TenSura is getting a third anime season, which is set to air in spring 2024.
