Japan Teacher Arrested After Pouring Bleach Into School Meals

A female elementary school teacher in Saitama was arrested after it was learned she had mixed bleach into the school lunches, which the intended children victims didn’t consume, and it wasn’t revealed why she performed this heinous act.

The 24-year-old elementary school teacher worked at a school in Fujimi City and is suspected of adding chlorine bleach to the school lunch curry, the food was located in a corridor on the third floor where she worked before being served.

Police explained that a student opened the lid of the lunch (which was meant for 20 people) and the teacher found an odd odor wafted off it, which he quite accurately claimed to be a “chlorine smell”.

The principal instructed all homeroom teachers to gather, but the culprit, Ayana Hanzawa, was nowhere to be found. The principal eventually managed to locate her and asked her about the matter, where she admitted to poisoning the food.

Hanzawa brought the bleach to school in a bag in her talk with the police, and such a bag that emitted a stench of bleach was found on the veranda next to her classroom.

About half a bottle of bleach was assumed to have been poured into the curry, but was thankfully not consumed.
