18-Year-Old Arrested for Flashing Knife at Police Officer

An 18-year-old boy decided to damage his permanent record after visiting a police box and flashing a knife for seemingly no reason, something the police officer did not take kindly to and immediately leading to several other policemen arriving at the scene.

Taking place on the 20th in Wakaehonmachi of Osaka Prefecture’s Higashiosaka City, the young boy was said to have flashed a 13cm knife at a 35-year-old male assistant inspector at a nearby police box, which heightened the tension severely as the officer drew his firearm.

The inspector managed to restrain the boy and arrested him on suspicion of interfering with a public servant in the execution of their duties as well as for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.

The boy, who has admitted to the charges against him, was a high school student and lived in the prefecture – there were no injuries dealt during the incident.

According to the police station, the troublemaker visited the police box because he found a wallet, and as the inspector was processing the lost item, the boy suddenly stood from his chair and displayed his knife to the officer; only one policeman was in the police box at the time.

A 51-year-old male from a store in the vicinity provided his account of the incident:

“I heard loud voices coming from the police box, and about seven patrol cars had quickly gathered at the scene. A number of police officers rushed in and some even entered through the window. It’s scary that such an incident happened nearby.”
