New Iran Fatwa Demands Anime Girls Must Wear Hijab

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, has issued a new fatwa that demands women in fictional anime be required to wear hijab, and while such censorship would produce humorous results, the requirement would prove rather expensive for animation studios and possibly make it impossible in some cases.

Khamenei’s statement when asked if females in anime are required to wear the head covering:

“Is observing hijab necessary for characters in animated films (three-dimensional paintings that come from the artist’s mind)?” Khamenei was asked. “Although wearing hijab in such a hypothetical situation is not required per se, observing hijab in animation is required due to the consequences of not wearing hijab,” he replied. In other words, the artist is free to imagine women without hijab but he cannot present them to the viewers.

It is said that some individuals of the Islamic Republic’s religious groups are against allowing movies that depict women naked in the head region, as they believe it motivates the oppressed females into ridding themselves of the metaphorical shackles.
