Runescape Censors the Word “Gypsy” & Replaces Names for “Diversity”

The latest iteration of the longstanding Runescape (also known as “Runescape 3” and is utterly despised by purists) has followed suit with other corrupt games as the developer has purged things deemed offensive by a minuscule portion of the populace, this time with Jagex purging the word “gypsy” while also altering names and titles.

A new update to the MMORPG came out on February 24th and its patch notes indicated that some things in the game were changed for the sake of protecting people’s precious feelings:

The word ‘Gypsy’ has been removed from Aris’ name and examine text as this word could be interpreted as a racial slur.

Various NPCs in Karamja have been given more appropriate titles.

Various NPCs in the Kharidian Desert have had their name changed from ‘Ali’ to better reflect the diverse variety of names we see in real life.

Some dialogue in the Kindred Spirits quest has been altered to remove unintended offense.

Those criticizing the absurd changes on the Runescape sub-reddit had their comments deleted.

The game was already immensely hated by old school fans as it is a far cry from the original two titles, designed to be similar to more traditional MMORPGs rather than focusing solely on time-consuming grinding.

Such censorship and political bias might not be particularly surprising as Jagex apparently punishes players for swearing at people despite the existence of a chat filter.
