Fanservice is actually the main reason anime is better than western cartoons. It is a sort of failsafe, which lets characters appear more multidimensional in art. Basically, if you can have fanservice, you can have almost everything. No one is going to be writing another Monster or something feeling they have to hold back to appease the mentally ill communists and thread on eggshells.
If anything, anime culture is more tame and family friendly than it ever was right now. Yet we aren’t getting our next LoGH for some reason. Elimination of art and artists don’t lead to a better culture of art. It leads it to being occupied by opportunists and activists.

I wasn’t hating on fanservice as a whole, but more the specific girl group/guy group types of anime that are very clear who they are pandering to(like K-On! or Free!) . I don’t like them and what they inspire, but I still think they should be able to exist. Sometimes certain tropes leak into other genres, but as a whole it hasn’t negatively affected all anime. I do agree that fanservice in anime has been great for the medium. It allows for more creative freedom, even if some people do end up pandering too much. It took on a different form than western TV that just show censored sex here and there(which you can’t even fap to yet are pointless and last too long), meanwhile a lot of their content is heavily censored and curated in case it would hurt certain “sensibilities”.
