The director of Lucky Star and Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon is currently “missing” after the devastating fire washed over Kyoto Animation Studio, causing some to fear the worst.
Japanese media are stating that Yasuhiro Takemoto – who directed such esteemed works as Lucky Star, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, the Clannad anime adaptation and Hyouka – is still yet to be accounted for after the arson attack that left dozens dead at KyoAni’s main studio.
Takemoto also helped to direct the Haruhi movie and did work on shows including Nichijou and Violet Evergarden.
Fans of the studio’s works may take some comfort in the fact that Tatsuya Ishihara and Naoko Yamada have both survived.
Ishihara directed The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Hibike! Euphonium and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, and was the main director for Nichijou. He worked with Takemoto on the Haruhi movie. Yamada directed the vast majority of the works in the K-ON! franchise, as well as Tamako Market.
I hope the outpouring of support will be enough to completely reconstruct KyoAni Studios to be a state-of-the-art facility. Rise from the ashes; double the size, with onsens and security of a bank vault… it’s the least they can do for the staff who survived.
Oh brother… the problem isn’t the fucking inanimate objects but the highly skilled and specialized human capital that was lost, it’s bad enough that this is a niche industry and workers are not in comfortable cushy jobs
Yeah, but even then, this would be an absolute tragedy if they cant recover, thats why i hope they can return and continue their work, independent of what people may think, good or otherwise about their body of work.
The 30+ people that died will hopefully be remembered and honored by their surviving coworkers and new staff in the future.
That piece of human garbage will literally be hanged for what he did.
There will almost certainly not be a recovery. KyoAni’s Kyoto studio was its command center, housing not only the central key frame studios but also its archives and data centers where anything and everything was stored. They’re done.
And you know — I think we as a civilization are just about done too. What a wretched fucking world this is, that this should be the end of good people who wanted little more than the happiness of others.
In Second World War many cities were burned to ground, and still Japan survived and recovered. Japan isn’t so weak as to collapse because of one burned building.
Oh f♥♥k off drama queen.
Way to judge before understanding his intent. I gleefully await the day the courts stop being decided by juries, and you are exactly why.
Nevertheless, the arson will pay regardless, but try to understand even the villains.
How dare you say such insensitive s♥♥t like this you absolute fucking moron? The arson’s intent doesn’t fucking matter when he KILLED 30 FUCKING PEOPLE JUST DOING THEIR JOB!!! There is NO need to “understand the villains”. The guy is a fucking psychopath and deserves to be next person filmed by jake paul in a forest.
If you’re innocent, get a judge. If you’re guilty, get a jury.
A neurotic response doesn’t actually improve the situation though. What you outlined about the working conditions is exactly the reason to be pragmatic and material investment is the best cause that the largest amount of people can contribute too.
Save this becoming another “thoughts and prayers”, non-genuine show of empathy and hopelessness for the lost of human life, left in a comment section somewhere on the internet. Donate to KyoAni if you honestly want to commemorate.
Oh the edge
You can’t buy skill or talent with money unfortunately. But I really hope they do cover from this.
Well at least insurance can make it exactly the way it was… Though they can’t replace dead people and their talent, no one can.
Most important improved fire suppression systems and emergency exits.
Maybe even a complete revamping of fire codes across the entire city.
Here’s the problem:
Most ‘security’ at these studios are skinny guys with no weapons. Japan has a rather hostile outlook towards firearms; maybe its time to revise that and start admitting that violent people exist and cannot be dealt with through non lethal means.
No, that’s not the problem at all. That’s just being braindead. Japan also has one of the lowest crime rates, unlike western shitholes, and for a reason. The real issue here isn’t that the guards couldn’t ‘Murica up that guy, it’s that he wasn’t caught and was able to carry out the arson. Whether they had cock extensions on their person or not wouldn’t mean s♥♥t if they didn’t catch this faggot lighting the place on fire until after it happened.
>it’s that he wasn’t caught and was able to carry out the arson.
You know how you stop a crazy guy from lighting the gasoline he spread everywhere? Fucking shoot him.
Yeah, that’s a good idea, smart guy, fire off a weapon in an area where someone just poured a whole bunch of gasoline and end up lighting the place up anyway. But hey, at least you got to cum out of your bullet dick first and assert your test. levels.
Keep your intellectual poison in Trumpland where it belongs and leave the civilized world alone, thanks. If we’re not allowed to dictate your gun policy, then you sure as s♥♥t aren’t allowed to tell others how to run theirs.
So lets say Japan had the same freedom loving gun control policies as the US. So had this guy shown up intent on killing people there could have been an armed guard around… and instead of grabbing some gasoline and lighters this guy would have been strapped with an automatic weapon and enough ammo to make sure no one got out alive.
Firing the gun would not have ignited the gasoline, that is completely fucking retarded. That is not how gasoline vapors work, that is not how gunpowder works, that is not how bullets work. If the vapors could have ignited from firing the gun then the room would have exploded, the same thing would have happened if the arsonist lit the gasoline.
Keep your intellectual cancer in California where it belongs and leave the rest intelligent world alone, thanks. We are not children and do not need you trying to control every aspect of our lives.
This fcker had 40 liters, so around 20Kg. Even the gasoline vapour might be enough to set everything alight.

This was just 2 liters. For all the anime hating edgefags with their keyboard expert quarterbacking.
Water also makes these kind of fire worse, how can any average adults not know this?

Stop getting your knowledge from video games and movies. You can’t ignite a puddle of gasoline by shooting it.
“Japan has one of the lowest crime rates”
Gee that rhetoric went to hell the moment Train Autist killed 25 people, some of the victims being irreplaceable talent.
Put the blunt down and start valuing content creators Protect them, don’t make excuses.
You mean like your doing. A couple of isolated incidents dont suddenly make Japan a crime ridden state.
Both you and the Anon below you cant accept the reality that america isnt used as a standard for the rest of the world…
Yes idiot, Japan has one of the lowest crime rates, and still does. One incident doesn’t change that. Statistically the US is practically an active warzone in comparison to Japan, and has atrocities of comparative or larger scale almost every year. The US police force is among the least trusted by it’s citizens in the developed world, and in a state of near constant violent scandal. American policy is the LAST place to look for advice on policing and civil order.
Are you really so blind to how your nation looks to the rest of the world that you think you can lecture other nations on topics like crime?
I think you forgot the point about him being unarmed because he’s in Japan.
Lets think about guards in town places in the world:
1. Guy is unarmed, he has a gas can, you have a stick and training to brain him.
2. Guy has bullet hoses strapped to his back(doesn’t even need the gas can), you have a hand gun and training to shoot him.
If I was responsible for the lives of everyone around me. I know I’d want option 1 instead of option 2. Cause it’s got the better odds. And he doesn’t even need a building that’s a fire hazard to commit mass murder with option 2. He just needs line of sight.
Under that logic, I guess we could say the US is worst because there is a killing spree in some school every week.
Ah, yes. That’s how crime statistics work. One crime is committed and the rate skyrockets.
Moron.
“Bullet hose” really shows how much you know about firearms…
Don’t bother, you won’t break through. They’re unable to accept the reality that evil people exist.
Yea they should “revise” their firearms policy so people can do mass shootings with their beloved AR-15.
Actually beside americans noone could be more savage and brutish to do mass shooting as a fricking teenager. At least my country didn’t have a single “mass shootings” in school ffs.
I’ve got some more savage and brutish people for you.
Middle Easterners. you know the people who tie explosives to children and force them walk towards Armed Soldiers with the full intent to kill both the children and the Soldiers.
Most “mass shootings” are done with handguns. You are far more likely to be killed with a fist or a hammer than by a rifle.
Most Japanese people are skinny guys with no weapons.
The other tragic thing here which is easily overlooked when reading the death count, is the “dozens of people injured”. These are fire injuries we’re talking about. Some will be lucky with minor injuries, but for many it will mean life long burn wounds, scorched lungs, or even potentially brain damage from smoke inhalation. Did you read the part in other articles, about “bloody foot prints” being found exiting the building? Imagine being on the top floor, when the floor turns into a hot grill plate. Fire does utterly horrible things to a person.
I know… I’ve been thinking about that too. I’m not sure which are luckier, those dead and no longer suffering or the survivors with what are bound to be terrible wounds. Anyhow, I’m hoping my donation does some good. There’s nothing else we can really do for these poor people.
I was thinking the same goddamn thing. If 30+ people died, they’re bound to be many 1st degree burn. Skin/hair melting away, clothing and accessories literally fusing and mixing your skin. No joking matter. Even if folk managed to escape immediate death, they got a long way ahead of them.
Minor correction, but you’re mixing up your burn degrees.

Otherwise, the sentiment of your post is spot on. This whole situation is terrible, hopefully KyoAni can recover, and the arsonist should be given the harshest punishment possible.
Is to sad to think that people that make so much good animes like: Koe no Katachi, Clannad, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, Hyouka,K-On!, Kyoukai no Kanata, Violet Evergarden, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, Nichijou, Lucky Star and so manny good works with so much passion and always with the best quality are dead now. My condolences to the family of the victims and those who love this company.
Who the f♥♥k can downvote you? Seriously.
I don’t know, but unfortunately this is how internet works. And ty.
He said “animes”.
73 fellows that shared love of animation are hurt or dead. All I can say is I hope the survivors recover and still enjoy the passions we share.
Most of the news channel im following are reporting him dead sadly….this is getting worse and worse
Its the worst incident of mass murder in Japan since WW2 too.
When a canister of gasoline is more devastating than a canister of nerve gas 😮
since Tokyo subway sarin attack
he studies ignorant jerk.
This killed more than the Sarin attack.
He called me ignorant but he’s the ignorant one for being unaware of this fact.
Its actually quite hillarious if you think about it long enough.
