It has been reported that the arsonist who killed dozens of people at Kyoto Animation’s 1st studio building performed his murderous deed because the company “plagiarized his work”.
A woman who tended to the wounds of the arsonist (who she initially believed to be a victim of the crime) said that the man complained of the studio “ripping him off”. The 61-year-old woman, who was in the neighborhood at the time, said that the arsonist started ranting; while she was unable to understand much of what he said, she reported that he clearly shouted about the company plagiarizing him.
It was claimed by witnesses that the arsonist ran into the building screaming “die” after spreading a gasoline-like liquid around.
The man is currently having his injuries treated at a hospital, so further questioning on his motives is impossible until he is released.
Considering an anime studio is like mountains of paper and card boxes pilled on top of each other, the fire probably took everything so fast that the poor souls had no time to react. My prayers for the deceased and the victims.

Except the sentai film works gofundme is literally too unclear where the money goes to. It’s too easy to set up a gfm claiming the money goes to kyoani, without making a clear roadmap of how and where the money will be spent on. Will it be used on equipment, building or to the family of the grieving victims. It literally says nothing anywhere.
Like with various fundraisers that happened before in the past like with the Tohoku quake back in 2011, various companies etc in japan refused the donations obtained from the west. Where did this money end up eventually anyways?

Furthermore, notice anything funny? Sentai film works aren’t donating any money themselves. They didn’t mention any of this on the gfm page, in any of their social media posts.
As a company with ties to the business, it’s cold for them to not do a token donation of themselves.
Maybe I’m just a bittered pessimistic jerk, but the real winner here is SFW for getting tons and tons of delicious free advertisement and exposure and all it took them was to do a couple of tweets and make a page. Currently it’s way too unclear where all the money of all the good people that donated goes to, so I’d like to think it’s better to currently keep your money or spend it on kyoani related things instead.

Have KyoAni sell an autographed (by as much staff as possible) poster/dvd/bluray/whatever for a nearest $10 rounded of what the gofundme brings in.

Best way to support victims would be some kind of good will -sale on Kyoani products they are selling. That’s an established route for the money.

This event wasn’t planned (except by the murderer) so it would be weird if the messaging was too polished. Supposedly, GoFundMe has anti-fraud mechanisms, including donor guarantees. And since you think that Sentai is the winner because of free publicity then I don’t see how you then dismiss all the free publicity they would garner if they just kept the donations. FWIW, I don’t think the company could just take it as revenue, even if they wanted to. There would be a host of lawsuits if they tried and I’m pretty sure that someone in the government would find it interesting.
