Shueisha has announced it won’t be receiving chocolates from fans participating in the Prince of Tennis Valentine’s Day popularity poll next year.
Every fujoshi’s favorite tennis manga, “Prince of Tennis”, will be putting its annual tradition of allowing readers to vote for their beloved characters by sending in chocolates on hold for Valentine’s Day 2019.
The magazine was reportedly almost flooded with chocolates in 2018, as fans sent in over 400,000 items to show love for their favorite boys. The amount of confections sent in has steadily doubled yearly, so it’s not a big surprise Shueisha decided to halt the tradition for the new year.
Some photos of the submitted sweetness from prior years:
The “New Prince of Tennis” manga is currently being published by Shueisha’s monthly Jump Square magazine and is nearing its 20th anniversary.
so give them to the ones who participated in making the anime. they wont mind
I would say donate the chocolate to homeless shelters, but I don’t think homelessness is a huge issue in Japan as it is worldwide.
Think about all the “Lets grab a bat and find a homeless” scenes in anime over the years. The thing is, it isn’t that far from the truth. Bridges/parks are full of them..
There was that scene in Inu Yashiki, where teens beat up some homeless dude.
It is….
You’d be surprised if you walk around the (literally) shadier parts of Shinjuku at night. About 1 out of every 10k people in Tokyo is homeless.
You also have to realize that a lot of homeless people don’t look homeless. They have no fixed housing, and yet they go to work, and look like everyone else. Just at the end of the day, they have nowhere regular they can lay their head down and rest. I don’t know how common it is in Japan, but I was in this situation once. Getting my hygiene done at the local university helped a lot, but Japan being a society of shame, I assume many homeless people never let on that they are, in fact, homeless.
Ah apologies. I guess some of the statistics reported are bogus?
Should just sell them to lonely men as Valentine choco from their 2D waifu.
Bait&Switch dating sites giving an actual date instead of 2D waifu/husbando admiration. What a novel concept.
