Police Hunt Man For Paying Boy To Sneeze

Shizuoka police are searching for a man who offered money to a schoolboy to sneeze into a tissue that he provided.

An apparently normal-looking man in his thirties is said to have approached a high school boy in Hamamatsu City and asked him to sneeze into a tissue in exchange for ¥1,000. The boy subsequently went to a police station to report the incident, describing the man as being a slim, 180cm tall, black-haired individual in his thirties, wearing a black suit and carrying a rucksack.

Police are investigating the case in accordance with Article 2 of the Police Act, which allows them to “maintain public safety and order”, even in cases where it is hard to determine whether a law has been broken. CCTV footage is currently being examined by police with the intent of finding more information about the sneeze fetishist (this being the most benign interpretation of his antics), and have advised the public to be alert and avoid accepting his offer.

There was a similar case in the same city in 2016, with a man being warned by police after asking another schoolboy to sneeze, claiming that he was doing research.

There is no information about what the man intended to do with the tissue after the boy had finished sneezing into it.
