Square Enix has announced that they will be taking the “Persona 4” route with Final Fantasy XV, stating that they will continue producing short story-based installments as opposed to making a full-blown sequel (or a new entry into the franchise); which will no doubt be good news for the handful of individuals who still believe that the action game is an insult to the franchise.
Final Fantasy XV’s director, Hajime Tabata, claimed at Gamescom that spending large amounts of time working on a sequel will cause fans to lose interest during the wait (like the low attention-span millennials of today):
“If you do that full sequel model of expanding on an IP or a series, it’s good in certain ways. The negative of that is there’s a very large open period where you’re not releasing anything. In that period, you get people to move away, and their attachment to the franchise dissipates a little bit.”
“What we’re trying to do with that is to depict that missing 10 years of history right at the end of the story. If we had tried to do that as a traditional, full-scale sequel, that would have been very difficult, but it works really well in [keeping] that continued relationship with fans.”
Naturally many are hoping that the game doesn’t end up becoming like Persona 4 in that various spin-offs and DLC will end up consuming the franchise for the next 8+ years – Final Fantasy XV is available now for PS4 and Xbox One.
Who actually wanted a sequel to XV anyway? Sure as hell not any sane person.
15 is trash! Leave this piece of crap in the toilet where it belongs and close the lid. Square needs to move on to FF7R and stop fucking around and release it within the next 5years instead of 15years like they normally do. And keep Tabata far the f♥♥k away from it!
Well, just call it “episodic” like final fantasy 15 – episode two: attack of the waifus.
Good lord I hope FF7 doesn’t get mangled. Then again…
Square Enix promised some VR content with that Season pass thing. They’re now releasing some VR fishing game that may not be included in the pass for a ridiculous cost.
What a bunch of scammers.
