The most popular anime of the month have been revealed once again with the latest issue of NewType, with the 2nd season of one gargantuan series managing to surpass even the absurdly revered Kemono Friends…
1. Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2
4. Saekano 2
5. KonoSuba 2
6. Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
7. Youjo Senki
9. Natsume Yuujinchou Season 6
10. Berserk 2017
Little witch academia is objectively amazing and kemono trash shouldn’t be top 5. WAT
SAO, being the greatest anime of all time, is underrated at #3. It should be permanent #1 status, and all future lists should simply begin placing entries at #2.
A better question to ask is how they even have a top 10 of June 2017, when it’s still only May? Either someone has a time machine, is prescient, or they suck at editing.
Monthly magazines usually do come out in the middle of the previous month, so this is the list in the June issue.
People can hate SAO all the way, but the fact that it has lasted this long and remained on lists like this for as long as it has is defining proof that it IS popular.
It might have plot holes large enough to fly a 777 through, the pacing is all over the place, and it has more cliches than my grandmother has cobwebs in her coffin.
But… it was a ‘fun’ show to watch. It pretty much ran off with the ‘Rule of Cool’ and married it, but it married it well enough that it did create a subjectively enjoyable anime.
It’s not perfect, in fact looking at it objectively there’s more things wrong than right, but it did the right thing well enough to make it popular.
Perhaps SAO has remained on Newtype’s lists because the companies behind SAO have a financial relationship with the company behind Newtype.
I don’t know if this is the case or not, as I don’t care enough to try to find out. But it’s a perhaps better explanation than that many people still hanging in there about SAO. Of course it could be wrong; look how all the Fate/Stay Whatever series keeps churning out variations.
Gee, accuse financial improprieties, then claim you can’t be bothered to prove them…and I am supposed to take you seriously?
I don’t care if you take me seriously. I simply stated corruption as a possible explanation, while admitting up front that I could not prove it. At least I’m honest about it.
I’m not even sure it could really be called corruption or improper, if it’s accepted business practice within that culture.
sao is actually very popular in asia despite what you white asses think about it.
As a white ass I resemble that remark..but yeah, these lists are not voted on by Kansas farmers or California stoners.
This list reminds me of one of Arnold Schwarzenegger quotes: “Let me be the judge of that, I’m tired of the same old faces, the same old things”.
