Avid light novel readers have contributed to the 2017 edition rankings of the “Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!” guidebook, which were divided between bunkobon (serialized novels) and tankobon (standalone novels) categories and have shown the mighty Re:Zero being booted from first place on a ranking for once.

it’s a blasphemy that mushoku tensei isn’t on top.
Good list, though my most liked titles aren`t there. Except two.
Nice to see Rirumu-danna up there!
If Index is still popular why the f♥♥k haven’t we gotten season 3 yet?
that’s what everybody is wondering. the index novels are hugely popular.
my understanding is they follow the novels rather close so likely they needed the author to get to a set point to cover a full season then theres the issue of getting the voice actors ready some may be attached to other projects and so on then theres the animation studio they can only do so many things at once to keep quality you can’t just go with a new one.
PS glad Mushoku Tensei – Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu is on the list be it I don’t want an anime since given its size I don’t think an anime or a few seasons can do it justice.
Basically, because the novels are still popular. They don’t need extra promotion, so a 3rd season will , at best, come when the sales start declining.
This.
Looking at both series, there is like 40 novels or so, total.
Even if season 2 was rushed, and covered more novels during it’s run than it should, they still have more than enough material to get a season 3, easily.
Yes, they do follow the LN closely but Season 3 would at best adapt the remaining volumes of “Old Testament”. We’re currently in the volume 17 of “New Testament”, meaning we have PLENTY of content.
Damm, title picture looks like a grown-up Naru from Barakamon.
