The newest bullet-laden trailer for Valkyria Chronicles Remastered has briefly chronicled the history of the war-torn nation of Gallia, showcasing a myriad of the game’s truly suspenseful cinematics in addition to hopefully depicting the game as more than just the mindless shooter it most certainly is not.
The dramatic trailer:
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will fight for its freedom in the west on May 17th for the PS4.
But it’s on PS4 only? I mean come fancy update aside, even the crappy ONE should be able to run this fine. I thought the last version of this game had a 360 version. However I could be mistaken, it might have been PC. It has been too long and I had a very limited window to play the game in. I would have used a 360 controller for it either way. That might be what is confusing me.
Valkyria Chronicles 3 When?
4 years ago i think…
Well… its in english dub, so there goes the dramatic side off the trailer.
Oh god this. As someone who played this game in both english and japanese the localization really was terrible. Some parts where outright changed (like Isara always calling him “Welkin” instead of “Brother” like the japanese version) for no reason at all.
Wait what? Isara calling him “Welkin” instead of “Brother” is totally normal in an English localization. When speaking English normally, nobody calls their brother “Brother”. That would sound totally unnatural.
Subtitles for Japanese dubs can get away with it because some people (Japanese dubs fans) know that’s how people call siblings in Japan, but localization ≠ literal translation.
I’ve been playing in Japanese with English subs, and at one point recently she called him “sir” in the subtitles, while referring to him as brother in the Japanese audio. Obviously that changes the tone of the conversation. And he insists on shortening her name to “Is” in English for some inexplicable reason. There are plenty of scenes where I’ve noticed the translators take liberties with the translation for no other reason than that they could.
And on the topic of her calling him “brother”, that doesn’t necessarily sound unnatural when you consider that the game takes place in a fictional country of a fictional world, in the equivalent to an early 20th century time period. It’s easy to accept that the mannerisms of their language might be different from those of most modern English speakers.
But they also give us gems like Once Again With Feeling… So . Beat the game 3 times so I have played the game with both track….
It has a Japanese audio option.
