A stunning live action Metroid video has been acquiring a great deal of positive acclaim, boasting mesmerizing 3D CG and special effects that may very well do justice to the ancient yet highly revered franchise, though some have found the constant close-ups on Samus’s face to be a bit disturbing…
The work was created by none other than Rainfall Films, a popular studio that nabbed similar notability in 2008 with its seemingly genuine Legend of Zelda movie trailer (which in actuality was an April Fool’s joke).
The astonishing live action tribute:
Rainfall Film’s April Fools Legend of Zelda movie trailer:
this sucks they copying the Iron-man s♥♥t
Had two problems with this:
1) The Iron Man style in-helmet shots, they just look so blatantly fake because it gives the feeling that the person’s head is in a giant, dark can. You can see Samus’s face through her visor, we don’t need the front-on in-helmet view.
2) Motherfucking film grain. And, to a lesser extent but still enough to be annoying, the damn photoshop filter that tried to make everything look like it was painted.
Those points aside, it was pretty good. Wish they’d gone a bit easier on the dialogue though.
Yeah I’ve never liked that style of in-helmet shots for the reason you mentioned but it’s become increasingly popular since the Iron Man movies.
I kinda understand it for Iron Man since they want to show his face and you really can’t from the outside (short of having him raise his visor everytime he makes an expression or something lol).
But you can see Samus’ eyes through her visor, do I really need to see her entire face to get the point across? (especially when the actress’ teeth are as bad as this one’s are…)
For the big movies it’s just a reason to show the actor’s face (“If we can’t seeh RDJs face, how do we know it’s him in the suit! Inform us, the dumb public, for we are dumb and don’t understand ANYTHING unless it’s explained carefully!”).
But for this fanmade stuff? It’s just distracting – the point of Metroid was never to have a specific character, that was added on later. Especially Super Metroid, which just captured the feeling of loneliness on a hostile planet perfectly.
Didn’t need blonde with blue eyecontacts for it either.
Jumping at a door closing? Or just standing there in front of enemies without her weapon ready? That’s not Samus.
My thoughts exactly
I disagree. Samus cannot afford to be paranoid while on assignment, if she gets too trigger happy she might shoot or kill something that she does not want to.
Why do people still make Nintendo fan stuff when they know it’s going to be taken down by Nintendo?
With all due respect it should not be taken down by Nintendo unless they are making money off the stuff.
Nintendo needs a wakeup call with a Megaton Hammer across the head to get it through to them that fanfiction, parody and fan works fall into a totally legal area by our laws.
You are an idiot. Nintendo doesn’t take down fan works. Only if they are making money on It. They are always fully supportive of fan projects.
Pretty cool. The Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey influence is pretty fitting for Metroid; really had chills in that scene where she enters the tomb looking area.
