This is 1985, Anime was just about to hit its peak, with lots of incoming talent. Camcorders the size and weight of phone books.
So yeah, 25 years later – much better video and photo hardware, an attempt by fans to look NORMAL or dress cool or stylish.
Costumes are far fare better today compared to then.
