Bayonetta designer Hideki Kamiya, formerly of Capcom and now with Platinum Games, has recently been complaining bitterly about erotic doujinshi based on his game, saying they lack “love.”
He expressed his displeasure with such works on Twitter:
There are erotic doujinshi based on Bayonetta… there are fans who don’t like that sort of thing, and you really can’t think the people responsible have any love for the game.
[…]
Aren’t they inspired by love for the work itself?
I don’t feel there’s any love at all in making an ero-doujinshi based on something.
Some gratuitous examples of these hateful doujin works:
More of this lack of love in the Bayonetta ero-gallery.
RULE #34
doujin is the highest form of love. it strengthens the bond between fan and the series. the artist is just the middleman.
I understand how he feels. These self-proclaimed doujins are just trying to capitalize on his work. The real doujin spirit died in Japan long ago.
Well, Kamiya, what did you expect?
Does he expect romance? he created a freaking erotic eye candy, not an emotional anchor. Moreover Bayonetta’s universe and story seemed pretty “meh”, it was mostly the gameplay and the eye candy that made the game good.
