Mother Calls 911: “My Son Won’t Stop Playing Videogames!”

gameplaying-girl-by-oyari-ashito

A mother who found her son engaged in a late night gaming session felt she had no option but to call police on the boy, as he ignored her commands.

The Boston mother reportedly became exasperated at her 14-year-old son’s “gaming habit” and told him to play less, but matters came to a head when she awoke one night to find her son still playing Grand Theft Auto at 2:30AM despite being told to stop.

The mother then unplugged her son’s console and called police on him, who dutifully arrived and told him to “Chill out” and “Go to bed.”

The mother, a 49-year-old cafeteria worker raising three other children by herself, explained she only approved of healthy sports themed games and not ones teaching the basics of criminal entrepreneurship:

“I would never buy that kind of video. No way. I called because if you don’t respect your mother, what are you going to do in your life?”

Just whether the most noteworthy aspect of this story is the woman calling police on her own son, the police’s willingness to respond, or the fact that the boy avoided being tasered or arrested is difficult to determine…

i dun sense anything wrong with what the mom did, the son should learn to respect her mom more since it is she that is raising him and his siblings alone.

The more you command the more child wants to oppose you. Who said it would be easy.

I bet you the only reason why she was being a bitch about it is because her 14 year old kid was failing High School because he was too occupied with GTA or other games.

    How old was his son?

“I would never buy that kind of video. No way. I called because if you don’t respect your mother, what are you going to do in your life?”

um... i would be more worried over a mother that calls 911 over a videogame rather than the son ignoring such mother. Just because you are a mother doesnt means you are a good one.

How can people blame a ...what...14 year old? "I raised my son since birth and I have no control over his development. He's playing videogames at night and soon, he'll be ragdolling drugdealers in real life." 14 year olds not listening to their parents?? Thats completely out of the ordinary! I wonder if this failwhore calls the police everytime her life takes a turn for the normal. And I wonder if those cops would show up when she enters menopause and calls them because her periods stopped.

The child's response was "Fuck the police!" and proceeded to steal cop car and kill a police officer with a shotgun to the head. This was of course just in the game, it didn't actually happen.

I have to agree and disagree with the mother. Agreeing for actually minding her child playing till late. Disagreeing for resorting to calling the cops on this one. That's WIN and FAIL parenting there. Heck, unplugging the console's fine already. Did she really need to call the cops after that? Perhaps that's the Amerikkka way of parenting? *shrugs*

Police: "Chill out... Go to bed."

Thank all that's common sense in the world that the cops didn't go trigger-happy on the kid. The least we hope to hear (or the most for some - *coughArtefactcough*) is another news of some disobedient kid being subjected to some form of torture that would make The Joker weep in his batcot.

Somewhat disappointed cops are still unwilling to provide a certain "suggestive" form of service....

So, she wants her son's respect? For me, it would be the EXACT reason to disrespect her and I would constanlty remind her of that when I grow up and act cold towards her until she acknowledge she was a bitch

that is not good a reason to disrespect your mom. the fact that he didnt listen her in the first place. lucky he didnt get his butt handed to him. you forget your mom takes care of you till you get out on your own. at that point you should be happy to take care of her. A kid that disrespect his or her mom, deserves to get a beat down. its not like she told him to jump off the bridge or tell you to commit murder. Cut the game off. and if you not a save point. pause it, turn off the tv. and come back at it in a few hours to save.

Gamess are not more important then the one who brought in this world and raised you.

Actually you can call the police for many problems you wouldn't expect. Getting into locked doors, taking care of problem kids, etc. Their motto is to SERVE and protect. If you simply called the police (and not 911 because it is for emergency calls only) you can ask them to do lots of stuff, and if they don't have any real cases at the time, they will probably do it.

Well. I agree with the mother getting pissed at finding her son playing at 2:30 AM, mainly because mine freaks out at midnight.. but calling the police?

I think the real question here would be.

"If you cannot control your own sons/daughters, what are you going to do in life?"

    @Anon 09:40 / "Niker":

"If you cannot control your own sons/daughters..." - sometimes, even in the best and loving-but-not-spoiling-the-kids families, kids turn out to be shithead assholes, anyway.

Sometimes they rebel against their parents, simply 'because they can'.

And some kids (and adults) truly become video game addicts.

It sounds like there's already stress in that family due to money concerns (one adult and four kids on the salary of a cafetria worker... jeeze).

If it was a slow night, I'll bet the cops were happy to back up the mom, in hopes that the kid'll be less-likely to run wild later on.

And really, what else could she _legally_ do?

Smack his ass with a belt? If she did that, they'd have her up on child abuse charges, AND she'd probably lose ALL her kids.

Well, if she beat the sh-t out of him like he deserved, in AmeriKKKa she'd have been arrested and it would have guarunteed he'd go to some kind of state/foster home that'd likely let him play the games (to shut him up) and hang with 'Gangsta' kids, then once he reached a magical age dump him out on the street. So, in a twisted way it makes sense to 'expect' the police to intervene when they'd intervene otherwise.

Except it doesn't. She should have been able to beat the sh-t out of him and take away/throw away/pawn his video game system.

As a little kid, my brother and I were told by our mom: "You have one hour to pick up all your toys. After that hour is up, I will go through the house and pick up any remaining toys, which will be confiscated for one month."

After the first time this happened, we both got VERY good at picking up ALL our toys when asked.

It seems the same thing could apply here: "Kid, lights-out, now. If you start playing that thing again tonight, I will confiscate the game AND the console for one month."
