Sony’s much vaunted PS3 Slim is practically released, allowing curious testers to make the shocking discovery that the slimline version is actually slower than the corpulent original.
The comparison videos below demonstrate the apparent differences:
However, another set of videos seem to show it being slightly faster:
Rumours circulate that some differences may be caused by differences in harddrive, but in this case the maker of the video claims the same 7200RPM HDD is installed in each.
Of course, the discrepancies could also be due to mysterious differences in firmware or hardware, or simply random fluctuations.
Whatever the cause, it seems very unlikely Sony will be admitting any undocumented performance difference, positive or negative, between the models.

f♥♥k consoles! PC FTW
i’m happy with my first generation 60 GB model… glad i didn’t wait to buy it later, seeing how it gets worse and worse with each new model
Like the countless incarnations of the PSP?
PS3 Slim cost $399 in North America, PS3 and PS3 Slim do not have same price. PS3 Slim is much cheaper than PS3.
Thats 100% incorrect right?
North America is large, so maybe you should specify a country (I have no idea what the canadian/mexican price is), but in the USA the Slim is $299, and the 80gig PS3 Phat is also $299
yes i have the fastest ps3 then yeah fat owns its nice looking and faster!!!!!!! we old timers are the best
It was already stated that the silm would have less power, so it’s no surprise if it’s a tiny bit slower at parts
and the faster parts would be thanks to a new firmware right?
