Acclaimed romantic drama eroge Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two has spawned a fairly extensive media complex, and the latest addition to it comes in the form of newly airing anime Ef: A Tale of Melodies, a sequel to 2007’s Ef: A Tale of Memories.
Unsurprisingly, the title doesn’t deviate from the established motifs of the series, and it looks to be a contender for most visually striking anime of the season. It even has some tasteful service…
There are some notable seiyuu present and production values generally seem quite high. Animation does not seem as impressive as the stylish design, however.
The most interesting element of the series is probably that it is a strongly conceived visual anime (reminiscent of Zetsubou Sensei though nowhere near that level)… Putting aside the story it is quite interesting to watch just from this perspective.
Unfortunately the story doesn’t seem easy to pick up without having followed some of the previous works, so it may have more trouble picking up converts than most.
The enigmatic story probably demands knowledge of the first season, so from this perspective it is not very accessible, but otherwise those interested in a striking visual romance might be well served to try it.
Those interested to see some nice artistic animation might also like to try it… I’m not too sure that others will find it that interesting, however.

i don’t feel it demands so much knowledge of the first season, basically you could ignore the first season, but i got the feeling they will be pulling stuff from the first season really soon.
