If this cover art for the upcoming and highly anticipated Lucky Star OVA is anything to go by, then something resembling the earlier Hatsune Konata madness may be set to feature in the OVA itself, officially.
And of course, there is also the matter of Nagato Konata visible there…
Wow, considering how well Kyoto Anime is aware of the subculture it creates, in this case it’s ripping off its own fanbase. Can you even copy violate a semi-organized, loose group of Otaku(s)? If push comes to shove, how do you even cut split check like that?
I wish the OVA was longer than 30 minutes… but if they can cram this into it that would be awesome.
Perhaps it infringes, unless KyoAni have some kind of Intellectual property deal with Yamaha corp.
Recall that there were similar cosplay crossover scenes in the original, and no issues.
Besides which as I understand unnamed cosplay falls outside the copyright radar, at least with anime companies…
In the case of Lucky Star, though, they might as well care since they’ve seriously gone beyond parody into the realm of profiting off other people’s works. They might as well call it Lucky Star: The 24 minute Commercial for Random Otaku-related Products.
If I see Haruhi in Lucky Star one more time..
errr, kyoani made both haruhi and lucky star, so i think they have the rights to show them in anime.
Legally speaking, copyright infringement is usually a civil issue, not a criminal issue. That means the law only intervenes if the copyright owner actually complains (this explanation is greatly simplified and not 100% accurate, but it’s basically how things work).
wow that is so cute!
aren’t they infringing on copyrights though?
oh yes they are, but usually the companies aren’t too strict with that, since it also helps promote their products too
