Comment on Top 20 Singles of 2012: “Japanese Music = AKB48” by Imyou:

Culturally right now: This doesn’t mean that much, since so many fans will buy boxes of CDs to push them up the charts.

Commercially, and culturally in the future: This sucks, because labels and producers will probably put more effort into making more groups like this when most people probably don’t really want that. Kind of like trying to find anime that isn’t all moe and ecchi these days – the hardcore consume it enough to more than make up for the mainstream dropoff, so they dictate the direction it takes.

I feel the same way about the first – haven’t seen the second. Oshii did the same thing to GITS that he did to Urusei Yatsura and Patlabor – he sucked the depth out of it and made it bitter and humorless, robbing the characters of their humanity. The original manga was dense as hell, sure, but the movie was such a small sliver of the story when it came down to it. Most of the supporting cast become props, assuming they even make the cut to the movie. For this reason I think I’m pretty receptive …

    Daicon IV!

  • Brave Girl Ravens Take Flight on Nutaku:
Looks like Girls x Battle and all the other games by that company on smartphones – with added H of course. And a bit of reskin, which they don’t always do when they change the name of the game.

  • Clinton Crony: “Keijo = Child Porn!”:
Right… so since someone who once proposed an ad for Clinton said something dumb, Clinton is the antichrist here to take our anime away. Vote instead for the most dangerous sociopath to have entered American politics. This site works a lot better without American politics TBH, especially when the level of facepalm induction is that high. This fool speaks for Clinton’s policy points in the same way the most backward Narutard speaks for all of us.

  • Nintendo Retires Splatfests “It’s Been Fun!”:
I loved all the Mario Bros games, before they were even “super”, but 64 killed it for me. It was insufferable. 3D platformers are an awful idea. That’s one reason there’s such a return to 2D platformers now. I’ve tried some later Marios like Galaxy too, but… it’s just a chore.
