Comment on Top 20 Singles of 2012: “Japanese Music = AKB48” by Imyou:

Culturally right now: This doesn’t mean that much, since so many fans will buy boxes of CDs to push them up the charts.

Commercially, and culturally in the future: This sucks, because labels and producers will probably put more effort into making more groups like this when most people probably don’t really want that. Kind of like trying to find anime that isn’t all moe and ecchi these days – the hardcore consume it enough to more than make up for the mainstream dropoff, so they dictate the direction it takes.

I loved all the Mario Bros games, before they were even “super”, but 64 killed it for me. It was insufferable. 3D platformers are an awful idea. That’s one reason there’s such a return to 2D platformers now. I’ve tried some later Marios like Galaxy too, but… it’s just a chore.

  • Nintendo Retires Splatfests “It’s Been Fun!”:
That’s why I didn’t get a WiiU and sadly can’t play Splatoon… They dropped the Wii so fast and hard it was still on shelves (they’d just launched a refresh!) when they killed all the online features. I mean, if its shelf life turns it into such a rental, then just lend me the hardware for free or fee and I’ll pay to use the software. I’m not buying it outright for a quick fling.

  • Virtual Reality: “Come Explore Edo Japan!”:
I’m so curious why Ooishi there has a black eye…

  • Virtual Reality: “Come Explore Edo Japan!”:
Yeah… Granzella(?) had a nice Edo village with games and everything. Run around fighting oni with your cheap starter shinai etc.

  • Urban Legend in Limbo Trailer Introduces Inaba:
As I understand it: Kaguya calls her Inaba, and maybe Tewi and any other bunny girl the same. Udongein or Udonge is her most popular name, but is just a pet name Eirin uses. Reisen is her only real name… which of course makes it confusing later when Reisen shows up. I’m guessing Rift isn’t a bit familiar with Touhou characters, saw the usual “Reisen Udongein Inaba” and went “ok, Japanese name order would make the last word her given name…”
