The first anime I saw was Urotsukidoji...
the gateway anime for me was X/1999
Nice one!
My gateway was Fushigi no Umi no Nadia. I was thirteen, fell in love with her.
Trigun and cowboy bebop were mine. Not counting the ''obvious'' shows back in my youth that were anime. But when they did such a good job to the averagekid like myself, in camouflaging said anime into "american cartoons" the you can add ronin warriors and robotech to the mix.
But the one show that i absolutely fell in love with; first as an american cartoon and then finding out there was an even better/legit version of it; Cardcaptor Sakura.
samurai pizza cats FTW.
that one and Robotech don't count, too tainted
(awesome nonetheless)
HELL YEAH DUDE!! I'm glad someone else remembers that show XD first anime EVER
Hands down.. My first Anime was Evangelion. But i was quite to young to understand the story.. but i fell for Rei anway. xD
My first animes were Pokemon, Dragon Ball, etc, but what really got me into M&A was Evangelion... but manga version XD
Sailor moon and dragonball guys...
Those two left a mark in my childhood. Sailor moon in fact might had cause me some monster violation fetish as well :P
I can add 'Gatchaman' and 'Space Battleship Yamoto' to that list (the originals; not remakes/sequels)
I really don't get Gintama on here.
It's a gag manga/anime, it's at its best when it's tricking people into a laugh out loud ending.
In my case it was Elfen Lied
To-Love-Ru; my gateway anime into hentai otaku. Uh wait, forget I said that.
Bakemonogatari for me, although Cowboy Bebop might have put a little spark inside.
Yep, this seems right. Haruhi definitely did it for me, while K-ON helped too. Although, Lucky Star kind of did the opposite...
I watched cowboy bebop and samurai champloo long before I really got into anime, they were genuinely good shows outside of being anime.
I think Haruhi and especially Lucky Star were the ones that got me into anime in general though. They were accessible and well animated enough for the average person but got you curious about the deeper depths of perversion...
Yeesh there are plenty of americans that love giant robot series and they aren't otaku. With some people it even inspires new technology by fantasy.
Lucky we aren't Japanese, then?
Became completely hooked to anime after watching a dubbed version of gundam wing. (low quality at that)
Then I believe it was RahXephon that finished the job.
I clicked on this and thought to myself something like "heh, card captor sakura was the first anime i searched for/watched/obtained online, and lead the way to the hundreds of other anime i've watched over the last 5-6 years. no way it'll be on here though its just random" but its #3 o-O, and I still haven't watched evangelion xD
Maybe you're still just a casual then, or have you already fapped to Sakura?
This is basically what seperates somebody who watches anime from a creepy otaku.
Guess I'm a creepy otaku. ^^
brofi- wait, you go wash your hands first
It's creepier if the hands aren't washed.
Whilst Card Captor Sakura has been halt as the legendary title that single handedly created a huge legion of otaku (and 2D lolicon), true fans wouldn't fap to sakura, as most of them agree with "yes loli no touch" :P
I fap to tons of characters... just not lolis, Sakura being no exception. Are you trying to suggest that that doesn't qualify me as an otaku?
I think it's just a matter of different types of fans.
One type that tries to respect it and protect it.
And another type that wants to indulge as much as he can into it.
I see no contradictions in respecting a character, and faping to it, but I'm probably crazy so meh...
How do you figure? I've fapped to that but I'm not crazy into anime. I've watched maybe 2 in the past year.
I watch anime to entertain myself, I don't care what you creeps do.
Um... Most people watch Anime to entertain themselves as well.
In more ways than one... (*^_^*)
Watched them all.
Yeap, I'm screwed for life.
Gotta watch them all.
Haruhi, I'm looking at you.
My modern version of this list for males:
1. Hellsing
2. Code Geass (mechs)
3. Death Note
4. Black Lagoon
5. Fate/Zero (overdone fights)
6. Kore wa Zombie Desuka (ecchi, randomness)
7. To Aru Majutsu no Index
8. Gundam 00 (mechs)
9. Neon Genesis Evangelion (mechs)
10. High School of the Dead (ecchi)
() indicates what watchers get used to while watching them, in addition to anime.
Why isn't Sailor Moon on this?
Those deflowering screams when a pure heart crystal was extracted from Sailors got 8yo me really hooked unlike other anime titles aired at the time in my country such (e.g. Grandizer, Speedy Racer). Ah, Zoisite was cute, too.
Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, and Doraemon did the job.
see american version of List above :D
Minako Aino was my first anime crush >.>
Obviously this list is based on original and not western otakus.
Dragon.......ball.......series..........
My gateway was Kimi ga nozomu eien and Mai-Hime.
so i finally finished k-on! the first season and it was better than i expected going to start the second season soon hope there is less crying..
If you're just a fan, you watch gintama > you google for some of the jokes > you slowly converted into otaku.
For otaku, you watched gintama, and you're the google itself.
Gintama? A gateway anime into otaku-dom? I thought you must be an otaku first to watch Gintama!
We had a Chinese traveler stay at out house for a month in the late 80's, he had Macross on VHS. That's probably the first Anime i watched.
did he explode?
Hahaha, it's true! My dad's from Japan, so I grew up watching anime in Japanese, but I never became a weeaboo until I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion. I think becoming a teenager around that time and discovering weeaboos even existed via internet was also a huge contributing factor, however.
