The PS3 has vastly better capabilities, but developers slack off when they make their games Multi platform. The 360 is easier to develop on, which makes them not put forth the effort to fine tune their PS3 versions.
When it comes to fine tuned Exclusives and Re releases(Sigma for example), the PS3's are vastly better than the 360's are graphics wise.

I do not think you understand computer hardware at all... The xbox 360 has a superior GPU which means it will have better graphics... The Theoretical maximum for ps3 hardware is lower vs xbox 360 hardware. Add in the fact that the xbox 360 is developer friendly and you have a lose lose situation for the ps3...Basically if you squeezed both systems for all they are worth you will get more out of the xbox, but it is much easier to squeeze then the ps3.

Technical: This game and Resident Evil 5 have different video output levels compared to their 360 versions... it's visually obvious.
For instance, the black levels are obviously not calibrated here, and should be adjusted ASAP.
Adjustments can also be made using the video output settings on the console, and on the HDTV itself, and I'm sure everyone does this, right???
I personally calbrate using some video playback test patterns, and then set my games to play using those settings on console and HDTV.... works real well for me.
Oh well I got both systems so it doesn't really matter to me which one looks better since I'm still gonna get it for the PS3.

Also, it really isn't any huge graphical difference here, the only real problem is the black levels. Muddier textures is scarcely going to kill you when the game's actually in motion (I also didn't have any framerate issues when I played it).

I can take screenshots directly from the stream of games I play, should i wish to. It can cause screen lag if I'm doing too much on the PC, but it's generally pretty good.

It's one thing if the graphics look like crap.
But the reduced framerate will KILL the game. Lowered framerates ADVERSELY affect gameplay because the timing for certain moves will be changed. Based off of my experience of DMC4 PS3 vs DMC4 PC on a good PC, I had difficulties playing the PS3 version because of slowdown in certain areas that the PC did not have. Revving with Nero was a pain in the ass due to the framerate slowdown.
If there's anything that's timing based that you must do in Bayonetta (and if it's looking to be the spiritual successor of DMC, it better be), having a shoddy port with shit framerate is going to be FAIL.
The part I don't get is why didn't Bayonetta get created on the PS3 FIRST, seeing how the userbase in Japan is *much* MUCH bigger than the X360 userbase. Kamiya a X360 fanboy?
It's cheaper to develop on 360. This is Platinum Games' 2nd game. They don't have the time or money to spend on making PS3 lead platform. They're not even doing the porting. SEGA is doing the job themselves.
Also contrary to popular belief, Japan is not the most profitable market when it comes to console games. An example is DMC4 in North America where the 360 version outsold the PS3 version even though all other previous games were Sony exclusive. Both however combined for about 1 million copies sold within the first month.
So while they do want to cater to the Japanese market, they have to look beyond that as well as keep costs at a minimum. At the end of the day, it's still a business and the number one thing that matters is profit and cost reduction.

The question is how well DMC4 sold overall for the Japanese and US market. What were the numbers for the PS3 JP version of DMC4? Did those numbers beat the X360 US version? If so, then following that logic ideally I would imagine concentrating your development energies on the PS3 JP version first and outsourcing the X360 port would help them rake in the money.
Needless to say, if this port IS as bad of a port as is being sensationalized here, then Platinum Games is going to lose a good portion of their JP userbase.
I'm going to get the JP PS3 version myself to see how well it performs.

Let's be realistic here. Both consoles have their faults and advantages, but the Xbox 360 is shit. I don't care how good you may claim it is, when you know it'll crap out on you 50% of the time, it's unacceptable.
It doesn't matter to me if I can get a new one under warranty, I feel downright insulted that a company would expect me to spend money on such a shoddy product. Then what of it if it's not still under warranty, and I own several games? Put down another $300 or lose the ability to play the games I've already bought?
Even if the Xbox 360's specs were better then the PS3's (they aren't) or it was cheaper (Xbox 360 120 GB Elite - $299.99 CAD, PS3 Slim 120GB - $299.99 CAD), I still wouldn't buy it over a competing console. The hard-line of the matter is that Xbox 360 is a broken system, by any standard you'd hold other electronic devices to.
No amount of graphic comparisons, "beta tests", exclusive releases, or superior game franchises will change this fact.
Maybe during the next gen I'll give Microsoft a chance. I won't be buying for at least a year after the new gen system comes out though. I consider them high-risk if I were to buy right when it came out, before extensive user reviews.

lmao, what a horrible comparison. Shadow of the Colossus is a very slow paced game. Not a high speed action and combo heavy game like Bayonetta. I played the ps3 demo myself, and it's beyond terrible. It's actually hard on the eyes because the frame rate stutters so much.

I don't know, it doesn't look absolutely gorgeous on either console to me. The gameplay looked interesting, so my purchase (for PS3) will be decided with that. The graphical differences between the two aren't enough to _not_ buy the PS3 version, and certainly not enough to buy an Xbox for specifically.
This is just the demos. I'm going to wait for the actual game before deciding which is better. Already preordered for the PS3, thou. Just don't see the point in getting a XBox/360 as the games that I actually want to play end up getting ported to one of the other consoles or the PC. They usually have more content than the original when ported anyways.

Been playing both demos side by side...the frame-rate difference is terribly noticeable and much more of an issue than the PS3's washed out textures and general blurriness.
It's nowhere near unplayable, but unless they fix this for the western release (which they are rumoured to do), anyone who has the choice between them certainly shouldn't pick the PS3 version. SEGA dropped the ball on this one.

I was amazed at how horrible the ps3 demo was. The frame rate is so bad that it's seriously the worst I've seen in an action game like this in years.
I’ll admit; the pictures make the PS3 version look like shit, but unless the video was labeled wrong, the PS3 version looked vastly superior. I’ll have to say, as long as the PS3 version isn’t censored over the Xbox, I’ll most definitely be getting it for the PS3. The 360 tends to lag when there’s a lot of visuals on the screen, and this game looks visually impressive so I’d hate to have my 360 slow down because of it. That and the fact that my trophy percentage is a lot higher than my gamertag.

Like you said... basically it's a port... usually on simultaneous release you only hear a lead platform. You hear a port when a game is already released on platform A and will be released on platform B. In this case it's a port that going to be released simultaneously... SEGA has less time to convert Bayonetta compared to doing regular port.
For a true comparison you'll have to wait for the US version, since SEGA still trying to improve things on the PS3 version which is scheduled to release on January 2010.
If any of you guys want to import the JP PS3 version, my suggestion is wait for the US version.
I do hope that SEGA will release a patch to improve the JP PS3 version.

Played the demo, game played fine for me. Any problems there might have been aren't even close to big enough to warrant all the bitching and moaning.
Personally, the game looks nothing like these screen shots on my TV......then again I have my PS3 & TV settings set up correctly.....
For everyone complaining about the PS3 version looking washed out, plain and simple to fix. Adjust your TV settings and play around with the color, brightness, detail, and picture settings. Problem solved.
And why in God's name would anyone really pay attention to shit like this when you can make the game look 10x better than what they show just by fiddling with a few settings?

PS3 is definitely inferior... this is what happen when you want simultaneous release but with a workflow like a port. Basically PS3 version is a port of the Xbox360 version. The difference with other simultaneous release is that usually they handle both version in-house or at least the team that makes either version is working very closely. This one is like Platinum Games make it first then it trickles to SEGA. To make it simple, PS3 version is rushed to meet the simultaneous release schedule.
The good news for US and PAL countries is that the PS3 version according to SEGA will be improved. Basically the US and PAL PS3 version will have an extra 2 months of work compared to the JP version. Bayonetta US PS3 version will definitely be better than JP version... although how much better is still unknown... (it can be that they'll just improve the framerate which is the biggest flaw from the PS3 version or improve the whole damn thing... who knows?)
To be honest, so long as I can tell what the fuck I'm doing, I don't see the big deal about this. I still use a giant block of a TV rather than upgrading to a high def. It would just be obsolete in a year or two anyway.

The problem isn't about graphics as in visual only, but the framerate of the PS3 version is inferior to the Xbox360 and that could be felt no matter how crappy your TV is. So even with worse graphic they still can't maintain a stable framerate for the PS3 version.

I have pc and ps3 on the same TV (a very nice lcd Sharp Top gamma HDserie) and if I switch channel (from pc to ps3 and viceversa) the images on this review about Ps3 version of game are not the same with Bayonetta demo running on my ps3,that are more similiar and often also better,than images called of Xbox360 on this review.In fact ps3 photos are really(but Really Really) different from demo.The difference is very high.
This remember me about the "scandal" of ps3 video review that was taked without setting ov video on XMB.
But after this,I found not problems with framerate and general speed of game,but I can't say if Xbox 360 version is more fast.

I really don't have high hopes for this game. When the main character in a game is a sexy woman, it's usually a sign that the game sucks and that the game company is hoping that a bunch a kids will buy it for the fanservice and not care about the rest of the game. With a character that's as fanservicey as this it makes me feel that there is going to be a huge fatally flaw with this game.

If I bought this game for a "Castlevania Fetish Thrill" I think I will then buy it from the "X-box 360" bargain bin.

A PS3 at least, WORKS. My PS1 - WORKS. My PS2 - WORKS. Turn them on 10 years from now, they will all still WORK.
My V1 Xbox - Crashes right and left, ten times as often as my 486DX50 PC did when I tried to render movie screen sized images and browse the net at the same time on Win 3.1 or play "Die by the Sword" on a P200 with no good graphics card. Sometimes I have to fight with it to play a non scratched Music CD...
However, "Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath" is an incredible game so lush and beautiful I wish I could enter it. Even made me like the idea of Westerns which despite being in a 'Western' state I don't really like that genre that much. And "Elder Scrolls: Morrowind" is similarly enticing...

And plus, who gives a shit about how the PS3 version looks. Even if it did look better the gameplay will still suck because of its crappy controller built from the 90s made specifically for minimal comfort and utility.

Looking at the screen shots and video.
- The PS3 used might not have its contrast / black levels set correctly. That alone can make both versions look much more similar.
- Some textures on the PS3 have a bit less detailed... but in movement, hard to tell the difference.
- But in the ViDEO clip, the PS3 has Anti-Aliasing, so I'm not seeing the JAGGIES that are easily visible on the 360 version. So perhaps this is causing some of the issues.
Personally, I'm okay with both versions, just calibrate the PS3 which can be done on the console end or the game itself.
Technically, the 360 has a bit more powerful ATI GPU over the PS3's nVidia version.

More like buy PC for $800 dolars and spend at least 3 years playing games at far better quality than consoles. Then you upgrade your video card for ~$200 and you spend at least another 3 years with it.
Oh and that's just if you want to play at max settings. Right now most games that are recently released run comfortably on 5+ old video cards and CPUs.
Now the problem with PC is that games are almost exclusively released for Windows, so you may have to shell $50 for an OEM OS, unless you know how to acquire one without paying.
The only drawback of PC gaming there ever was, is that many great games are released on console only out of fear of piracy.
But then again, the same holds true the other way around if you like RTS/MMO/FPS games.
Anyway, there is no reason for fanboyish PC bashing. Consoles are an obsolete gaming model that should have ended with the age of PS2/Dreamcast. They have absolutely no advantage over a PC. If you think you are paying less than a brand new $800 PC by adding the cost of X-Box live and DLC (which is free on the PC), you are deluded.
Oh yeah, PCs don't go belly up in <1 year. My previous PC is currently 7+ years old and has been working almost daily for all this time.
The so called "NextGen" consoles have been largely obsolete for nearly 3 years compared to PCs. I fail to see what is so superior to them, unless you are too damn stupid to use one.

Well i have no choice but to get the 360 version, i did really compare them and the difference is day and night.
I prefer to play action games on the PS3 because i prefer PS controller and trophies. If the difference is minimal, i will get the PS3 version, but this time it seems unlikely, while the 360 version does actually hits 60fps (important for a action game to hit 60fps) while the PS3 version only hit 51fps max. Z_Z
people need to start understanding that graphics are just a bonus developers give us...you can have the best graphics in the world and still end up with a game as bad as big mother truckers 2...as long as the gameplay (which what really makes a video game a video game) remains the same i'll still buy it for PS3. note: I have a Xbox360 and a Wii(its in a box never to see the light of day unless i need a backup Gamecube)

Looks like the exact same game just the ps3 version is brighter? Turn down the brightness and you'd probably not even be able to tell the difference.
Also its a well known fact that 360 is easier to make games for, So because of that, developers make multi's for 360, because if they started on ps3 they would probably make it to much for the 360 to handle if they weren't lazy. Then they'd have to rewrite the entire thing almost from scratch.

Just most programmers are not familiar with porting to a ps3.
If one thing about the last few generations has bothered me, it's the overemphesis of graphics as the ONLY quantifier for what makes which port better. Graphics are indeed a big deal in this day and age, but for me, i'll always go with whichever console I'm more comfortable playing, or which has more material (as in the case of RE4). I'm more comfortable with the PS controller than I ever was the Xbox, so I'll generally get the PS version (though, the built in harddrive did have me renting a lot of ports on the original XBox since my memory cards were often full).
Hell, I've played the PS3 demo and didn't notice a damn thing wrong with it until I read the articles afterward. Chances are, you probably won't notice playing it either. Really, the only graphics problem I have with the PS3 is that we're three generation in now with HD gaming, and there's STILL no anti-aliasing.
The point I'm making is FUCK THE GRAPHICS and just play the damn game. Who gives a shit what console it's on.
