Halo Anime Due

Microsoft has announced that it will be releasing an anime based on the Halo franchise, employing some of the top names in the anime industry.
The five companies involved in the actual production are Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio 4°C, and Toei Animation. The director will be Shinji Aramaki, of Appleseed fame.
The anime will be released on DVD and online (doubtless through Xbox Live) in early 2010.
It is not clear precisely what kind of visual style the production will adopt, but given the subject matter, and involvement of Aramaki, 3D CG seems a likely and appropriate choice…

If you look at how George Lucas held on to 'Star Wars,' not just to make money from action figures but to control the direction the universe went in, you can see why they think it's pretty vital to make an anime series.

Please say this is going to be in english...as much as I insist on my anime and manga always being in Japanese (seeing as I AM Japanese), I hated the Japanese version of the Cortana...she pretty much lost all of what defined cortana...

Not to make you people more butt-hurt or anything, but as a big Halo and Anime fan, I'm actually pretty psyched for this title, considering all the talent they collected. If they play their cards right, this might actually be good, maybe even have more fans interested in anime.

Too fast to conlude everything guys , the news might be bad , but whining too early wherein we can't see a fact to prove it yet is just so childish as a real Halo fan , let's see and wait , for sure THEY SHOULD KNOW what they are DOING for it CONCERNS THE MASSES. Y'know it could be worse....at least they are having some actually capable people/companies work on it. And as stated numerous times already, at least Hollywood aint pokin its ass in the matter.
If the animation is as sick as that pic above , then they sure have lined-up the very best they could for such production , and i don't think they are stupid enough to toy w/ the franchise , seeing that those involve in the project does have a reputation to start to protect and to start with , let alone most of them have proven themselves respectively.
Good thing this is not going to made by Hollywood, just imaging the fallout of angry fans if Hollywood attempted to make this
I hope part of the contract is that Microsoft continues to fund said studios far into the future.

I for one enjoyed Flight of the Osiris and the Animatrix as a whole and hope this achieves similar levels of quality.
In my opinion it's not that bad, but it feels weird, since MS is recruiting Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4°C, and Toei Animation to make Halo anime (there aren't good American animation studios anymore?), when Halo is not big in Japan at all. Although this Halo project feels similar to projects like Animatrix or Batman: Gotham Knight which could be good.
They're the reason why the genres are so split up this gaming generation...

You wanted 3rd party JRPGs? Get a Playstation.
You wanted FPS/RTS/Visual Novels? Get a PC.
Now, whether FPS, JRPG, old-school, or visual novel, you’re not sure if you’ll need a PS3, an X360, a Wii, or even a DS, PSP, or still stick to an old PC or PS2. The genres are too scattered so much so that if you’re a hardcore fan but just a fan of one genre, you’d need to purchase multiple platforms for it.
Among the most laughable developments this generation are in low-budget casual games and low-hardware requirements visual novels appearing on HD consoles.
Yeah, it's so awful. Now, instead of limiting your tastes to one small fraction of gaming based on your console choice, your beloved tastes are muddled across various hardware forcing upon you the option of playing new things and dragging in needless competition amongst the genres and platforms as they push to make better games than their competitors.
It's so terrible that ones tastes can also be satisfied on more than one console so that one isn't selectively forced into one platform. And god forbid that while on that platform you play something outside your typical niche. Unthinkable!
Life truly was so simple back when every console strictly adhered to its emergent majority genres and never strayed from them. Exceptions never existed 10 years ago.
Genres are so scattered now that gamers are forced to actually look at their options for themselves! It's so daunting a task now that gaming no longer follows the lead of whatever first was successful on its parent console.
And of course it's Microsoft's fault that alternate consoles hit the market. After all, there were never any alternatives ever in the market before they made the Xbox and they cruelly stretched out the handheld market into something bigger than cheap 4 hour games that could barely convey anything entertaining beyond a lunch break.
And it's truly laughable that casual games are being brought to HD consoles so newer gamers and experienced gamers in need of a break can play them without having to buy another console just to enjoy their ilk. The accessibility is just so humorous an error.
It's such a hassle that there's such a split. Choice is such a burden.

I guess capitalism is being applied in video games as you have to buy several console if you want to play different genres of games that have been scattered to different consoles

I crave something like 2 games total on each latest-gen console... not enough to warrant purchasing one of each. But if they were 6 games on one console I would have bought the package by now.
A console represents the strengths of the genre of games it offers. Now if they're all multiplatform then why the heck isn't anyone publishing for PC anymore? Furthermore, since each console represents all genres, then it's a winner take all result, and sooner or later only the most popular, easiest-to-develop-for, or least costly console will horde all the developers' attention. It isn't "Ah, Mr. Capcom, all your fans are with Sony, so you better make the Playstation the premier platform."
What you have instead are FPS folks buying X360 and finding Star Ocean 4 and going, WTF I'm not buying this shit. And JRPG folks buying PS3s and finding WTF all the JRPGs are on Xbox?

Actually, in my opinion this is the perfect subject matter for an animated feature. When they started talking about a live action rendition of Halo, I was very sceptical. However a 3D CG movie in the style of Appleseed has massive potential. I'm surprised there aren't more similar projects already to be honest. The usage of the word anime is obviously something quite different here to how you'd normally hear it. What's incredibly refreshing is that this sounds to be made for the Halo fans first and the "blockbuster" market second.
It removes the risk of all that crap that Holywood directors always insist on bringing to a project. Using a visual medium that perfectly captures what fans are already familiar with, along with voice work not held back by "the market"s absurd demand for an "all star cast", this could be one of the first game to movie conversions to actually do it right. I've been saying it for years now, and especially since seeing Appleseed, forget these overpaid actors and egotistic directors that think they know a story better than its creator, and just make a feature length souped up "cut scene". The Dead or Alive movie is a good example of an epic Holywood fuckup that blatantly should have been a 3DCG directed by Team Ninja. It's so damned obvious.
If I know Bungie studios, they will be 100% behind this project eagerly awaiting their full share of the profits. Which means the original designers and writers will be involved in the project. I'm not a major Halo fan, but I've played the 3 main games and found them higly enjoyable. I'm just excited that the industry may have FINALLY realised how to make a game to movie production, and not piss off every fan while making outsider audiences "meh/huh?" in unison.
I hope this is a success, since maybe if the holywood execs can learn something here, they might just stop their pointless live action brutalising of series like Gungrave and King of Fighters to grab imaginary blockbuster markets that don't give a shit.
Well, if it's a 3D CG movie in the style of Appleseed, I would say it would be a great idea, and yes, it would have massive potential. However, if it were to deviate any further away from that and tread along the lines of pure 2D, then it would be a disaster.
