The passing of Wonder Festival 2009 Summer has brought with it an incredible wealth of figures of all kinds, the highlights of which are presented below.
Most notably, a profusion of K-ON! and Vocaloid figures appear to be in evidence, many of which will surely become instant classics…

Japan’s biggest figure event, Wonder Festival (WonFes), had been on an uncertain hiatus since the escalator accident of WonFes 2008 Summer, but event goers will be elated to know the 2009 Summer event will resume, albeit not at the Big Sight, but at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba.
WonFes 2008 Winter was set to open this February, but the controversy over the refusal of the event’s organizer (Kaiyodo) and the Tokyo Big Sight to accept responsibility for the non-lethal accident which injured 10 people (including some broken limbs) forced the cancellation of the Winter event and has apparently spurred the WonFes to abandon the famed Big Sight in favor of the Messe center.

Event goers will be unhappy to note that the next Wonder Festival, one of the top anime hobby events, has had its next opening cancelled completely. This means there will be no Wonder Festival 2009 Winter at all, though it is thought that future events will go ahead normally.

I am a devoted fan of this illustration, so seeing the latest figure compelled me to post. No wonder Type Moon’s illustrations are so sought after. Also some more puchi nendoroid type images are provided…

Wonder Festival 2008 Summer stayed open despite the escalator carnage, and so naturally this means a look at the fine crop of figures being exhibited there has been provided by a variety of sites.
What caught my eye is below – in particular, you’ll note the excellent Touhou figures, more Valkyria Chronicles figures, including Selvaria, some belated Odin Sphere figurage, and of course Tears to Tiara figures. Yoko seems to be much in evidence.
Now updated with more sites. Read the rest of this entry »

Ten people have been injured in an escalator accident at Wonder Festival, at least one apparently severely injured with a broken leg; the escalator is said to have been overloaded, although staff were present.
Some 50 people on the errant machine were knocked down, and looking at the heights they could have fallen from, it is fortuitous that no fatalities ensued.

Hatsune Miku has been successfully miniaturised into a version superceding all previous in terms of sheer mini-moe, though perhaps even Mini Miku cannot compare to the nendoroid or even normal versions. The limited edition Mini Miku has been dubbed “Kocho Kore Hatsune Miku”, so expect it to become a collector’s item, perhaps.
Ultra-puchi Miku is set to be available exclusively at the summer Wonder Festival & Comiket, so you had better get your plane fare ready, or else be prepared to make liberal use of Yahoo Auctions. On the other hand, it seems quite possible hundreds of thousands of them will negate all rarity value.
In case you are wondering about the actual size, she is said to be some 20mm in height, or for non-metric types 1/16th of a shaku (6 bu). She is set to go on sale for a bank breaking ¥500.
