2008 Eroge Sales Rankings

Several large stores have recently released rankings of their best-selling galge/eroge/visual novels for 2008, allowing to see which of the last year’s crop attained the most favor from eroge fans.

Little distinction is made between the various types of bishoujo type games, such as pure visual novels or hardcore eroge, but the results are still interesting to look at:

Chaos;Head Ita-Bus

A promotional ita-bus for the upcoming XBox 360 port of Chaos;Head has been seen in Akihabara, advertising the game with its bus sized ita-artwork and 15 full size TVs built into the sides of the bus all simultaneously playing a promo video for the game.

Shrine maiden chaos anime Kannagi is seemingly intent on pursuing all parody elements possible; the latest is an eroge/visual novel parody, where the interface elements seem to unmistakably emulate those of Clannad; in fact there seems to be almost a natural rivalry between the two (or rather, some of their fans) at times…

Eroge Playable on iPhone/iPod Touch: Clannad, Tsukihime...

An enterprising soul has succeeded in making a number of highly popular visual novels/eroge work on the iPhone and iPod Touch, with such famous titles as Clannad, Air, Tsukihime, Higurashi, etc., all confirmed as working fully.

There is the prospect of more to follow, with games running on similar engines, such as Little Busters, likely to follow.

In this compilation of various tracks from a multitude of visual novels and eroge, running to 80 minutes, you can familiarise yourself with some of the best music the genre has to offer. There is some really rather nice music featured.

Everything from the lyrics to the source album and game are displayed for each track, albeit in Japanese; feel free to ask after anything you have trouble identifying.

Shibuya psychological thriller and suspense anime Chaos;Head finally makes its appearance. An adaptation from the popular visual novel by Nitroplus (not an eroge as such), the title promises, and delivers, a very contemporary vision of murder and delusion in Shibuya and on the Internet.

What it does not deliver, however, is much in the way of sound production values.
