Gundam 00 Ending Promises Surprise

gundam_00_christina_sierra_bikini.jpg

Hiroomi Iketani, one of the three producers for Gundam 00, responded to a recent interview question on the survival of the main characters after the last episode with the enigmatic suggestion that something significant and unexpected will occur in the “very last seconds” of the episode, scheduled for March 22.

The relevant segment of the interview is shown below, along with a translation:

Lantis & Sunrise Demand Removal of Anime Screen Caps

no-geass-caps.jpg

Two studios renowned for their extraordinarily draconian approach to copyright enforcement, Lantis and Sunrise, have apparently been demanding anime fan sites remove all episode caps, citing a breach of copyright. Publishing fan art online is also forbidden by Sunrise.

Even heavy hitter Yamakan has offered harsh criticism of the policy, which seems to lend substantial credibility to the missives. There is also some suspicion from the titles involved that copyright is not their only concern…

New Gundam SEED Theatrical Film Due Soon?

gundam_seed_new_movie_lacus.jpg

The Anime Newtype Channel’s blog reports Gundam SEED head screenwriter Chiaki Morosawa as suggesting there will be an official announcement (on the SEED movie) coming soon at the recent Kadokawa Shoten New Year’s party.

The Gundam SEED storyline, beginning with the 2002 original series and continued by the 2005 Gundam SEED: Destiny sequel, has been in limbo since writer Morosawa’s problems with cancer surfaced in 2008 and the unnamed theatrical film that is said to wrap up the SEED storyline has since been on hiatus.

Gundam 00 2nd Season Precure Plagiarism Doubts

gundam00-precure-oppai-1.jpg

Whether by way of deliberate tribute, sheer lack of originality or otherwise, the similarities between the new Gundam 00 2nd Season OP and the OP for magical girl anime Precure (Pretty Cure) have not escaped the notice of the comparative engine that is 2ch. You can view the OPs below.

It’s not clear why such extreme (beyond coincidental we might think, though still perhaps not deliberate) similarity should exist.

In related news, the nudity of the participating characters did not escape 2ch’s attention either:

Bronze Gundam Idol-Statue Attracts Worshipers

A three meter tall bronze statute of a mobile suit from the perennially popular Mobile Suit Gundam series was erected in production studio Sunrise hometown of Kami-igusa earlier this year.

It has since shown signs of becoming a symbol of the city, with fans flocking to photograph it and even instigating plans to build more mecha statutes in order to construct a “Gundam Road”.

New Code Geass Properties Hinted At

A recent quote from Sunrise has stirred up much controversy amongst Code Geass fans, as it suggests Sunrise’s desire to make another Geass project sometime in the future.

Given the series’ screenwriter previous hints that recently concluded Code Geass R2 would be the definite end of the storyline, many are left wondering what else could be produced?

Gundam 00 TV Ratings Soar, Trounces Code Geass R2

gundam-nena-haro.jpg

Recent TV ratings for Gundam 00: Second Season have been on the upswing, with the latest episode (11) reaching a surprising 6.3%.

Below, the ratings for the first eleven episodes are shown, along with a comparison to the equivalent episodes of Sunrise’ previous show, Code Geass R2, which was already known for having rather dismal ratings for its timeslot.

It is not surprising that the long-running Gundam franchise would prove to have higher ratings, but the pronounced size of the difference between both shows’ viewership is somewhat surprising.
