The world of fan made derivative works in anime, manga and games is vast, and as anybody who has pursued these works looking for something a little more erotic than is officially provided knows, a large portion of them are erotic in nature.
However, it is certainly not the case that all, or even the majority are such; a vast body of less noticed doujinshi exist, covering all manner of fan fiction. Below is reproduced an investigation of the numbers of these works published versus the number which are adult in character.

Finding themselves with nothing better to do for the moment, Japan’s politicians have been generating political capital by humouring moralist groups such as UNICEF, who have launched a hysterical crusade against what they see as lax laws on the part of Japan.
An opposition diet member (of the Koumeito – a major religious party run by a Buddhist sect) recently petitioned the government for even more laws, meaning against loli manga and similar: “We’d like the government to assist with all its energy in bringing these laws to pass” – and Prime Minister Rozen Aso, himself having a Catholic background, responded positively “We must proactively deliberate upon the matter”.

According to the results of a recent survey targeting young Japanese women, anime otaku are the second worst choice for a romance, being beaten out only by compulsive gamblers.
Surprisingly, less than 1% objected to PC and electronics otaku, whilst a mere 0.2% thought a movie otaku to be a poor choice.
