Sony has finally restored PlayStation Network service after it was catastrophically hacked, with most of its previous functionality restored after nearly a month of downtime.

The resumption of service for Sony’s ill-fated PSN has been officially delayed, with Sony now only saying it is aiming for “mid-May”; as if that were not enough, they have admitted leaking more customer data – this time by putting it in a spreadsheet on an unsecured public server for “hackers” to make off with.
Sony has been accused of hosting it PlayStation Network on servers running out of date software with no firewalls, and of continuing to run them in this fashion even after being made aware of the problem.

Sony has finally confirmed that all 77 million PSN accounts have been leaked to hackers, previously having maintained this was a “possibility,” and has revealed it found a calling card from “Anonymous” on a hacked server.
Sony has revealed that an earlier security breach it did not notice resulted in hackers making off with the details of another 25 million users, this time those unwise enough to play its MMORPGs, and has also confirmed that tens of thousands of additional card numbers have been stolen.

Sony has formally apologised for leaking the personal details of its 77 million PSN users to criminals, and is planning on offering free content and a month of free PlayStation Plus membership in the hopes its victims will forget all about it.
Sony’s admission that 77 million PSN accounts are in the hands of hackers has been followed by scores of reports alleging credit card fraud as a result of the leak, which Sony dismisses with its assertion that there is “no evidence” of the cards being leaked, although they concede they “cannot rule out the possibility.”

Sony has admitted that as a result of the hack which prompted it to take the PSN offline, hackers have stolen the personal data of all of its users, including their name and address, date of birth, passwords and security questions, purchase history and possibly credit card info.
