If this cover art for the upcoming and highly anticipated Lucky Star OVA is anything to go by, then something resembling the earlier Hatsune Konata madness may be set to feature in the OVA itself, officially.
And of course, there is also the matter of Nagato Konata visible there…

With the long and glorious history of the manga serialisation having recently drawn to a close, Inuyasha fans may have been lamenting the demise of the long running series; this may have been premature, as now we have news of a new anime production, though only a short one.

Some celebrations are in order for followers of the most visually sumptuous and innovative anime of recent years, to say nothing of its biting satire, as details of a new OVA release of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei have emerged, to be titled 獄・さよなら絶望先生 / Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goku meaning jail, but seemingly punning on 極 / Goku, meaning exceedingly).
Quoth the official site: “Has there ever been such a reckless project? Limited Edition Comic with included Original Animation DVD announced!”

Coming from Rondo Robe 2008 is the news that the next instalment in the Hellsing OVA, Hellsing V, is set to be produced by Madhouse (Trigun, Claymore, Lodoss, Texhnolyze, and dozens of other great titles), with heretofore OVA producer Satelight having lost the rights (Macross, Geneshaft, and not much else); whether this is due to some humdrum commercial reason or sheer incompetence is not revealed. In such hands there would appear to be little worry of the series going downhill.
2ch seems to have little respect for Satelight, but the same goes for Madhouse too (“Made in Korea”), so nothing but the usual ravings there then. Via Playlog.

In a rather unusual turn of events, the release date for the impending Lucky Star OVA has been pushed back an entire month, from August 29th to September 26th. The change has shown up in several different shops, so it can likely be taken as genuine. There is no official statement on why at this time, so we’ll just have to speculate wildly.
There was some interesting talk on 2ch that this could be connected to revisions after the recent incident, but of course that is pure speculation. Via 2ch, visible here.

The release details for the Lucky Star OVA have emerged. It will go on sale on August 29th, with the DVD having a list price of ¥6,090. The OVA runs for a marathon 30m. The sales spiel runs: “The OVA includes an original episode which couldn’t be portrayed on TV, following a real time axis”. So, a linearly arranged story? Extras include a Lucky Channel recording and event images. Dare I say, a tad expensive? Via 2ch, visible here.

The excellent erotic manga Love Selection, by 如月群真 / Kisaragi Gunma, is due to get an anime adaptation for release at the end of August, produced by Pink Pineapple. This potentially great news somehow got buried at the bottom of one of Heisei Democracy’s ever informative updates.
I must admit that lately I have not been impressed with the output of some of these studios – it seems the need to appeal to a common denominator means less original works find themselves adapted, and those that do often suffer inferior or mediocre animation which hardly recommends itself over the original manga. Still, it is quite possible this will turn out well.

In an interesting development for CG anime, Sunrise has just announced the release date of a new 3D computer rendered Gundam anime OVA, 機動戦士ガンダム MSイグルー2 重力戦線 / Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO 2: Jūryoku Sensen, “Mobile Suit Gundam MS Igloo 2 Gravity Front”, with the first disc to be released directly to DVD and Blu-ray on the 24th of September. The story is said to be an original side story set during the One Year War.
It certainly seems to me that the subject matter (giant robots) lends itself well to CG animation, and the success of Appleseed and the previous MS Igloo demonstrates that this can be done well, so it may be interesting to see how it turns out.

Pre-orders have already begun for the らき☆すた / Lucky Star OVA! More vague details have emerged regarding the story, in addition to the earlier news that it will feature Animate tenchou, by way of a feature in Comptiq, though things are still quite obscure. We have the comment from tenchou: “Don’t expect swimsuits! The main event is my hot battle!”, accompanied by text to the effect that the actual content is still up in the air, though it is said to be a completely new work. Some scans from Comptiq are kindly provided by Jabro, but apart from some fetching fridge magnets there is not a great deal new.

The recently announced らき☆すた/Lucky Star OVA has attracted much attention, and now details on the story for the OVA (and confirmation of a summer drama CD) have emerged in Newtype; it seems it will be based on the rivalry (actually I am struggling to describe this relationship) between Konata and the Animate store manager (“アニメ店長/Anime Tenchou”) – source here.
