The otaku murderer of a 5-year-old girl has been arrested, and upon investigation his residence was found to be festooned with bishoujo anime and manga related goods, with an entire wall given over to bishoujo posters prominently featuring magical girl anime PreCure.

When reality is not got enough, there is Photoshop. In this case, 2channers have spied an interesting example: a promotional image for the upcoming anime adapted film ヤッターマン / YatterMan, due 2009, which features possibly ill-advised cosplay costumes.
Above, we see the original version published by rag Sanspo. Below, we see the Oricon version. In case the difference is not plain enough, observe the following animated comparison:

Mass media trend watching site Nikkei BP Trendy recently engaged in a spot of schoolgirl thigh and skirt photography, sure to put even the hardened voyeurs of 2ch to shame, and the data gathered may be of interest.
Ostensibly the report examines the purported trend towards longer skirts, as it has been said that very short skirts have come to be seen as “crude”, using some fieldwork in Shibuya to gather data.
Most of this extensive data was in fact photographic in character (see below).

As we saw in the previous TV sex chaos gallery, the quality of bizarre sex chaos, called “happeningu”, on Japanese TV is rather high, whether mishap or intentional. You can see just about every flavour of such events in this gallery.

If this gallery is anything to go by Japanese TV announcers are more than capable of giving idols a run for their money, and in many cases beating them handsomely.
They also seem to get involved in plenty of the ero-chaos which afflicts, or is cultivated on, Japanese TV, as we saw previously, with plenty of high angle camera work keeping the profession of photograpy in esteem as ever.

Japanese television has a reputation for erotic content in otherwise non-erotic contexts, which as you can see from this selection of images, is far from undeserved. In fact, it looks as if Japanese TV also deserves a reputation for peering up skirts and down tops, and even ogling loli pantsu and more.

A middle school girl (15) who stabbed to death her father (46) ignited a typical mass media firestorm of finger pointing, when searches of her room turned up copies of the ひぐらしのなく頃に / Higurashi no Naku Koro ni manga (“occult manga”), a notably bloody tale derived from the famous doujin game series, as well as a variety of other suspect titles, such as murder mystery novels.

We get a distinct hint as to the possible political leanings of seiyuu 加藤英美里 / Emiri Katou, best known for voicing Lucky Star’s (or should that be Red Star’s) Kagami Hiiragi, with her shameless appearance in the pages of admitted communist newspaper 赤旗 / Akahata (Red Flag). Japanese mobile phone firm eMobile bowed to pressure recently and pulled an advert which critics lambasted as a racist attack on Obama, since it featured a monkey in a suit engaged in crowd wooing oratory, and calling for “Change”. The firm for its part denies the accusations, but has ceased the offending campaign anyway. In their defence, they state they had earlier employed the macaque motif in other campaigns.
Full report at rag Guardian. It may be interesting to note that hardly a whiff of this story has appeared in the Japanese media, or even on 2ch to my knowledge. Comes to my attention via FG.
Insensitive, or oversensitive?

The funeral pyre of Mainichi rag WaiWai has blazed into a general conflagration of infernal proportions, with the spectres of innumerable lawsuits for slander and calumny eagerly circling it, and the latest pick of their dubious articles will not see the heat abate any time soon – all 2ch is gleefully heaping fuel onto the fire, so here is the latest article of controversy.
