One of the most creative, if incredibly bizarre, if not maniacal, mangaka whose works I am familiar with is 桃山ジロウ/Momoyama Jirou, prolific creator of a long string of mainly BDSM themed manga, the content of which is conspicuous in originality and strangeness, even in a genre which is already saturated with such. If ever there was an artist whose works embodied the very animating spirit of /d/, it is he.

One of premier and most prolific mangaka dealing with futanari and the related themes of gender warping is ひねもすのたり / Hinemosunotari (also rendered as 終日庵), and he probably comes at or near the top of this particular sexual niche. Whether the genre appeals or not, it is not difficult to see why he has attained such popularity with his works, uniformly of a high standard and tightly focused on the prospect of hermaphroditic adventures as they are.

Okama is an artist who combines artistic talent with an evident flair for design; his portfolio as a designer in the world of anime now dwarfs his original works, though in my opinion they do not fully approach what he accomplished with the likes of Hanafuda, though this is perhaps unfairly applying my own taste – he is not really a pure mangaka, more of an artist, and he certainly is not restricted to the erotic themes I am focused on here.

A mangaka who has certainly succeeded in making an impression since his debut some years ago is 如月群真 / Kisaragi Gunma (or “gumma”), and anyone who sees his superb art will doubtless want to see more. Whilst the strength of his art is undeniable, it must however be said that his mastery is incomplete, as in terms of story and themes covered he shows some limitations. This is not to deny that he deserves recognition as a first rank ero-mangaka, as you can judge for yourself by reading on. Read the rest of this entry »

One of the first, and best, erotic manga I have had the pleasure of reading is Take On Me, by 竹村雪秀 / Takemura Sessyu, a manga which has run into two volumes and attained no small popularity. It is not hard to see why; his works possess an immaculate and detailed style, engaging story and characters, and cover a broad range of sexual interests.

水無月十三 / Juuzoh Minazuki is an artist whose work has been a favourite of mine for some time. I can’t give the kind the kind of unqualified praise I’m delighted to lavish on the likes of Nekomata Naomi, but I can certainly introduce and recommend his works wholeheartedly. His works cross a variety of genres and formats, so you can probably find something to your taste. The stories, where actually present, are short but frequently well done, and certainly erotically charged. His main strength is doubtless his considerable artistic talent.

This is 田中ユタカ/Yutaka Tanaka. His stories tend to be more sentimental than the norm – or perhaps they are normal and the unsympathetic treatment is not. Anyway, they are full of warmth. He is extremely prolific (in fact there is a suggestion several authors use the same pen name, or at least that plenty of assistants are involved). You may also be familiar with the erotic anime adaptation of Virgin Night (初夜), based on his work. He has a slew of normal (non-H) manga published as well, but I am concentrating on the H part of his portfolio here.

I read recently at Moeyo that master ero-mangaka 鳴子ハナハル/Naruko Hanaharu has his first compilation, 少女マテリアル, Girl Material, set for release in early May. I am certainly anticipating this one. Up to now he has published a variety of dojinshi, as well as often appearing in Kairakuten magazine – surprisingly for an erotic artist he also draws the Kamichu! manga adaptation. Some distinctly steamier pictures are inside.
