murakami-suigun-mizugi-bondage.jpg

In responses to the recent media hysteria over “rape simulator” adult games, the main industry and ratings body in Japan has opted to completely ban the making and sale of titles featuring rape and sexual violence.

Estimates are that games affected could be “10-20%” of the market, meaning 20% of eroge could end up being banned, with themes such as BDSM and similar becoming completely off bounds.

Minister: “Who Cares If Freedom of Speech is Curtailed”

beako-loli-ban.jpg

Japan’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, 鳩山 邦夫 / Kuni Hatoyama, has expressed his contempt for such inconsequential matters as freedom of expression if they get in the way of protecting the children.

Speaking in favour of even harsher laws against underage porn, he had this to say:

“It must all be banned. Compared to the benefits of freedom of expression, preventing the human rights violations caused by underage porn is far more important – who cares if freedom of expression is massively curtailed.”

Governor: Manga Maek Bad Literasy

Looking for Suwacko

A prefectural governor has riled his diet by announcing that “If you’re too familiar with manga, you’ll lose the ability to read.”

He made the statement in response to proposals relating to anime and manga, rejecting them out of hand, going on to say “We have to think of the children’s education”, which caused something of a furore in the prefectural diet.

His remarks are widely interpreted as an insult directed against the PM for not giving him the funds he wanted to squander.

10 Million Immigrants for Japan?

Low birthrate is troublesome for Japan

As a countermeasure against population decline caused by a lowered birthrate, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (or at least a faction thereof) is proposing that Japan should aim for 10% of its population (128 million) to be comprised of immigrants by 2050, which would mean an additional 10 million on top of the current 1-2 million (depending on criteria).
