Passionate otaku have been festooning yet another sacred Shinto site with the iconography of 2D goddesses; this time with ita-ema (votive prayer plaques offered to the gods) of the K-ON! girls, showing us once again that devoted otaku are indeed worthy of that name.
You may be familiar with this otaku practice from pictures of the epicenter of such otaku rituals, Washinomiya Shrine, perhaps better known as the home of the Lucky Star cast.

The controversy over the recent mishandling of a case of gang rape amongst its students by a Kyoto university has intensified with the news that one of the rapists had just started working as a middle school teacher, and the university apparently deliberately refrained from reporting that they investigated him (which they did not report to police) so he could continue working as a teacher.

An elementary school teacher (34) who committed acts of infamy against a schoolgirl, leaving her injured, has been arrested, but it appears this was only a repeat of earlier crimes, and that throughout his career of perverted assault he was able to continue to hold his post as a teacher.

A middle school girl (14) stabbed two people, a man (26) and a women (25), in a random act of violence clearly inspired by the grand Akiba stabber himself; true to the pattern, she gave advance notice of her deranged intent by way of a mobile phone bulletin board, with the unambiguous warning “I’ll kill people”.

One of the staff at Kyoto Zoo has apparently been killed by the tigers he was taking care of. Apparently, whilst cleaning the cage housing to the beasts he was suddenly attacked, being mauled thoroughly, and soon died after being rendered unconscious. The animals, a pair of Amur tigers, were later tranquilised and isolated.
It seems the cause of the accident was that a divider between two sections of the cage was left open, so allowing the tiger to get to him in the section he was cleaning, a rather grievous omission. Police are investigating whether safety procedures were properly followed, and the zoo is closed for the time being. Via Asahi.

It is being reported that three arrests have been made by Kyoto police for unauthorised distribution of copyrighted material (Gundam anime is mentioned) using anonymous P2P network Share, abortive successor to Winny, and these are the first arrests for using this network. Such reports do deserve critical reception, however, as they are inevitably presented such as to further the interests of law enforcement and copyright concerns, so some more careful analysis is required.
